    In the Middle Ages and towards the late 1700's, there was a theocratic society that was controlled by the church. Law, marriage, wars, land were all issues overseen by the church, specifically in Europe. After america's first amendment stating there will be a separation from Church and State, other countries followed suit. This led to people foregoing Christianity and making it less powerful than before. This was also applied to Church rituals like the Eucharist, communion and reconciliation
