Manifest Destiny
Manifest destiny was written in 1816 by John Melish. He wrote this paragraph to show what Whites thought of America. Manifest Destiny basically says that America is the greatest country because that is what God says. Also America will never fail because they have formed it perfect with equal rights, really it is not equal with slavery and forcing the Natives to leave their land. The pictures shows that Whites are spreading across the country to bring light and civilization with an angels help. -
Joseph Smith
Joseph Smith was the leader and founder of the Mormon Church. Followers thought he was a prophet. He believed in Polygamy and had over 40 wives. He was kicked out of many states and moved to Nauvoo. The town is located next to a rival town and writes bad about them in there news paper so he wrecked the news paper press down. He gets in trouble for this and goes to prison and dies from a mob murdering him. This is a picture of Joseph Smith and the year is when he had his first vision. -
Andrew Jackson role on removing Native Americans
Andrew Jackson first wanted to help the Indians and give them equal amount of rights and land. He soon began to realize that they were a hassle and annoyed the White Men. So Jackson wrote a letter to the congress trying to convince them to push out the Indians westward. Andrew Jackson basically said that if we give Indians land and everything they need to live then that should be fair enough. He also stated the benefits for both people. Mormons
The Mormon church was founded in April 6th 1830 by Joseph Smith. This was during the Second Great Awakening time where everyone wanted to find religion. They believed that Jesus has already came after his resurrection and that Joseph Smith could talk to God. The Mormons believe in polygamy where you can marry multiple wives. They say if a woman marries more a man with more than one wife they automatically go to heaven. The picture is a picture of a Mormon Temple located in Salt Lake City. -
The Alamo
The Alamo first began with Americans moving to mexico because Mexico bribed them with free land. Mexico wanted America to solve Mexico’s problems like cattle thieving and other thieving so they populated Texas with bribery for land. Trail of Tears
Trail of Tears was about a forced journey for Indians to travel West and leave their land and everything behind because the U.S. government paid them. The Cherokees were the last to leave because they wanted to try and be civilized but that didn't work out. The U.S. wanted the land for power and for money. Around 4,000 people died and most had to walk all the way there. The picture is a map of the distance they had to travel and where they were going to. -
The Mexican War
The Mexican War started with The Alamo because when the rebels defeated Mexico, America thought they retreated and were not coming back. They were in for a big surprise when they came back, but this time The U.S. government was in on the battle. They believed in Manifest Destiny by spreading America's land. America participated in the war and won the war because they wanted not just Texas but also California, Utah, Arizona, Nevada, and New Mexico. The picture is a drawing of the war. -
The Donner Party
The Donner Party was a journey that left with around 90 people that spread out West. There were problems, one was that they left to late and the journey would take months, but they traveled in the winter. The other was that they brought to much stuff with them. One other problem was they took a shortcut that ended up taking 6 days longer. The main problem was they had no food and winter in the middle of winter. Brigham Young
Brigham Young was the leader of the Mormon Church after Joseph Smith died. He led 16,000 Mormons from Illinois to Salt Lake City Utah. He was genius for leading them to this uncivilized land because no one wanted live there. All though there is a lake right outside of the lake is nothing, just desert. Gold Rush
After the Mexican War, America took control of several states, including California. Shortly after America won the War gold was found in California.James Marshall built a water powered sawmill and then suddenly found gold flakes. He wanted to keep the discover on the down low but word spread like wild fire and everyone wanted to be part of the Gold Rush.
