Queen Elizabeth ruled England from 1558 to 1603. She was a loved and respected Queen. -

Charles is the son of James I, who also believed in the divine right of kings. -
Parliament passes Petition of Right
The petition prohibited the passing of taxes with out Parlaiment consent. Charles I agreed at first, but later chaged his mind, realizing the limit it put on the kings power. -

Oliver Cromwell becomes the ruler of England
The commonwealth lasted from 1649 to 1653. Cromwell made England a military dictatorship. -
Oliver Cromwell dies.

Parliament restores the monarchy, making Charles II king.
Charles was a Catholic, causing suspicion from Parliament. -
King Charles II dismisses Parliament.
Because of the Exclusion Bill against Catholic rulers, Charles's brother James was not going to be able to assume the throne. -
Charles dies, His brother James II becomes king,
James is an open Catholic, once again causing religious conflicts. -

A Catholic heir to the throne worried Parliament. -
Mary and William invade England
English noblemen invite William and Mary to invade England. Causing James II, his wife, and his son to flee. -
William and Mary accept the throne.

This Bill of Rights destroyed the divine right of kings. -
Parliament passes the Toleration Act.
This act granted Puritans, but not Catholics, the right to freely, and publicly worship.
