Families were able to buy homes and GI bill made possible to fund higher education. -
Baseball Jackie Robinson
Jackie Robinson becomes the first African American to play major league baseball in the twentieth century. Even though he was booed by teammates, fans, and opponents, Robinson made a name for himself as a player. Jackie Robinson became the National League Rookie of the Year. Jackie Robinson never gave up no matter how hard it got to pursue his dream. Breaking the color barrier in baseball gave hope to millions and gave African Americans the opportunity to dream even bigger. -
Brown vs. Board of Education
This was a benchmark Supreme Court case for desegregation. This allowed desegregated of public schools. This was a turning point in race relations in the United States. This made for equal opportunity in education the law of the land. This gave African Americans an equal chance to live out there American Dream by achieving better education. -
Little Rock, Arkansas Desegregation of Public schools
President Eisenhower sends troops to desegregate public schools in Little Rock, Arkansas. These 9 African American students (The Little Rock Nine) were harassed and spit on, and even called horrible names. They became a symbol of the civil rights movement. They were able to break the barrier and were one step closer to the American dream. -
Elvis Presley
Elvis Presley becomes the best-selling musical artist in the United States. Elvis was able to make music that the youth of his generation were wanting to listen to, but more importantly, buy. From his humble beginnings, Elvis was able to obtain the American dream from hard work, timing and creating music that everyone wanted. He was the American dream for many teenagers of this generation. -

Martin Luther King Jr. organizes the March on Washington and delivers his "I have a Dream" speech which tells his version on the American Dream. He wants an America in which all people regardless of their color of skin to have the same opportunities. He wanted justice for all. His speech changed people mindsets especially African Americans who could dream bigger and inspire to there American Dream. -

The Civil Right Act of 1964 outlaws discrimination was signed by Lyndon B. Johnson. This law established equality for the working class. This gave an opportunity to all people regardless of there race, color, sex, and religion an equal opportunity in the workforce. -
First Man to walk on the Moon
Neil Armstrong was the first person to walk on the moon. President Kennedy sets a goal that we will land a man on the moon before the end of the decade. America was the first country to get a person to land on the moon and have a man walk on the moon. This shows America drive to succeed and the power of working together. This gave confidence to many Americans working toward the American dream. -
Ronald Regan Election
Ronald Regan was elected the 40th president of United States in 1980. President Regan definitely embodied the American Dream. Reagan was a college graduate, football player, actor that was able to become President. Reagan also fought for the American dream for others as well. His presidency fought for both blue collar and white collar Americans as well. To this day his "Reagan Economics" brings back a better time in America.
