Mary I's claim to the throne cemented
Parliament reversed its previous decision and reinstated Henry and Catherine's marriage. Furthermore, parliament passed legislation that guaranteed that Mary, as queen, had all of the authority and privileges of any monarch to sit on the English throne. -

Restored Papacy in England
Mary I repeals previous acts by her father Henry VIII, restoring the Pope's control in England. She also reinstated heresay laws that made it possible to punish with death any individual who failed to follow the religious practice of their sovereign. -

Mary's death came as a relief to many in England. Mary died believing she was an unloved monarch, distrustful of the Protestants and of the person they most rallied around, her successor Elizabeth. -

Defeat of the Spanish Armada
Phillip II of Spain was mad at England because they were protestant and wanted to prevent the spread of protestantism. Sent the armada over with many more ships than the english and Dutch had. At the Battle of Gravelines the wind changed, the Armada was driven into the North Sea. they return to Spain by sailing around Scotland and Ireland. Many ships were lost, while the provisions on others were completely exhausted. By the time they reached Spain, one-third of the Armada's ships were lost. -
Nine Years War (Tyrone's Rebellion)
Elizabeth began to take away powers of Irish lords, Tyrone, plays both sides, by funding rebels but pretending to be ok with the english crown. Eventually attacks english, runs rampant in ireland till 1599, convinces Essex to a truce (that ultimately leads to essex demise). The rebellion is eventually crushed by england putting local garrisons in to disrupt irish economy and killing tyrone in 1601. -
Essex Rebellion
Robert Devereux lost favor with the queen for concluding an unauthorized truce with the Irish rebels. Essex began plotting against the queen in November 1600.Essex's followers paid the Lord Chamberlain's Men to performRichard II at the Globe Theatre. The play depicted the deposition of an English monarch, Blount and the other Essex supporters in the audience hoped the performance would make london more suceptable to the coup. Plot gets foiled and essex gets killed.
