Louisiana Purchase
This is a territory purchased by American government from France. A total of 828,000 square miles were bought for only $15 million. Louisiana purchased doubled the size of US. -
Adams-Onis treaty
It is also known as a Florida purchase. US didn't pay any money for getting Florida, instead it agreed to pay the legal claims of American citizens against Spain, maximum $5 million. This purchase increased US territory. -

Texas Annexation
At that date, Texas was accepted to the US as a slave state. Originally, Texas was in Mexico. Before, Mexico have invited Americans settlers to come, but it turned out that there were finally mostly Americans in that territory, so they won independence from Mexico and instantly applied to join US as a state. However, this needed to wait, because US didn't want Mexico as it would ruin the balance of slave states. -

Mexican-American war ENDING
The war ended with a peace treaty, after US have captured the Mexico city, capital.
Effects:
1. Mexican cession: Mexico sold a lot of land, more than Louisiana purchase, to US. Mexicans there were allowed to become US citizens
2. For Mexico, there was a hugeloss of life, economic ruin, and huge damage to property.
3. With gain of new territories, old as America question arose again: will they be free or slave states?

Compromise of 1850
It bassically broke the Missouri compromise, because it said that states are allowed to vote for slavery or not. It made most of states pro-slavery, and completely ruined the balance. Cause of this compromise was aquired territories from Mexico after Mexican-American war. It also divided few bigger states to a bit smaller. The one major effect of this compromise was the Civil War -
Gadsen purchase
Gadsen purchase is a 29,640-square-mile territory. It was purchase by US from Mexico. The most important thing about this purchase is that it allowed US to complete the transcontinental railroad. They needed Gadsen, because anywhere else it was too mountainous to build rails. It was also the last territorial aquisition by the US. It costed US $10 million. One of the most important effects was also increased debate of slavery, which once again was bad, but this time it contributed to civil war -
Kansas-Nebraska act
It created 2 new territories: Kansas and Nebraska, which were allowed to vote for slavery. A lot of people came from other states only to vote, so slavery won. This soon led to a conflict called 'Bleeding Kansas'. Main reasons for this act were opening of a lot of new farms and Transcontinental railroad, which would be easier with those new states to accomplish. -
Bleeding Kansas
Bleeding Kansas, Bloody Kansas or the Border War was a series of violent political confrontations in the United States involving anti-slavery Free-Staters and pro-slavery people in Kansas. It was caused mainly by Kansas-Nebraska act, as it made it possible to vote for slavery, and because most people were pro-slavery, slavery balanced was ruined even more. This made anti-slave people MAD and series of confrontations happened. -
Civil War
It was a civil war between North and South, Free states and Slave states, Union and Confederates. It started because of:
1. I will repeat the question of America: " Slavery or not?"
2. Economy: Slaves in south were like building blocks of life, they made most of economy there.
3. President Lincoln wanted to keep the whole Union together, while confederates said "we are independent"
