I was living in Paris, Italy when I decided to leave. I need ed a different atmosphere. I was so excited to leave home. I thought I was going to find better things at Ellis Island. I was so sick and tired of my parents nagging on me about doingc hores and living under their rules. Being an only child was hard for me in my teen years. I always got into trouble and I wanted to leave. So I did. I wanted to prove that I could live by myself. -
Lincoln- Douglas Debates
Lincoln Douglas DebatesLincoln and Douglas were fighting for senate when I started packing my bags and going to America. There was a total of seven debates. Those debates were located in seven different places in Illinois. A lot of the debates included slavery as a big issue. I was 19 at that time and I was ready to leave. People were everywhere doing everythingwhen I arrived. I was glad to get out of the station. I was glad to start a new life alone without my parents controling my choices. -

I had just gotten a job at a shirt factory when I heard about Harpers Ferry. John Brown was totally against slavery. His plan was to hold hostages and hopefully get a whole bunch of slaves to come out and stand up. No one came. The reason why was obvious for people. Slaves were too scared and they knew they would be hurt if they disobeyed their masters like that. So it was a failure. -
Battle Of Gettysburg
I was totally starting to hate my idea of leaving home at the age of 23. It was the end of the Gettysburg battle. The Union won. They weren't winning most of the battle and at last minute the Union won. "Picketts Charge" helped out with that. The battle was a huge turning point in the war. -
Lincoln Death
When Lincoln died it was my turning point. Not only did he die, but I was fired and I took up as a job as a waitress. I did not get much pay that way and everything seemed to go downhill from there. Lincoln was shot with a derringer pistol in the back of the head. John Wilkes Booth got in easily, but he was caught days later. Thats when Lincolns Vice President turned things around and took over. Thats when Reconsturction started. -
Reconstuction Ends
Reconstruction ended. This happed because The Compromise of 1877 sealed everything up. The congress couldn't do anything more with the social structure of the south. I ended up being overwhelemed with work and I returned home. I was punished and I worked for my parents.
