    After the arrival of Therry and Connolly development took place.By 1833, there were about ten Catholic schools.Catholic schools received government help, but campaign’s had begun and it became clear that Catholic schools couldn’t rely on help longer.Between 1872 and 1893, States passed an Education Act removing state aid to schools. With no money to pay teachers, the bishops talked to religious orders in Ireland and other places, and religious sisters and brothers were responding to the problem.

  • Eureka Stockade

    Eureka Stockade
    On 30 November, 500 miners gathered under the Eureka flag and chose Peter Lalor as the leader. They swore to fight together against police and military. After the oath, they built a stockade, and waited for the battle. On 3 December 1854, government troops stormed the diggers' weak stockade at Eureka. In an intense battle that lasted about 20 minutes, more than 30 men were killed.
