    The United States aided Japan in order for them to win the war over Russia. As a result of Russia's lose, the government and the people started to realize and do something about the internal problems that Russia was facing.

    Russia ended up surrendering to the Germans even though they had the largest army in the world in 19114. Russia lost Kurland, Lithunia and much of Belorussia and had about 1.8 million people killed.

    Most believe that the turning point of the war was the victory over Stalingrad by the Russians. This single battle drastically pushed the Germans back towards their own country.

    During the Cold War, the Soviet Union tried to spread communism to other countries. The Soviet Union discovered how to make atomic and hydrogen bombs. This was a period of improvement in technology for them.

    The Soviets withdrew from Afghanistan after being stopped by multiple countries that intervened in the war. As a result of the invasion, the Soviet Union entered into an economic recession.
