Project Enlightenment
A team of staff developed a new Social Studies curriculum based on the need to provide authentic learning experiences for students. -
Framing + Moment = Story
Students worked with an Artist-in-Residence for a 10-week unit of study. Students learned the skills needed to take photographs with a point and shoot digital camera, edit their work, and write narrative stories explainig their images. All text was a direct translation from one language to another. -
Our Writing Progresses
As the years progressed new writing styles were added into the final presentations. Writing styles included: personal narratives, acrostic poems, "I Am From" poems, letters, word blasts and diamate poems. Writing was no longer a direct translation from one language to other. Each photograph was accompanied by two styles of writing. -
Digitalization with Aurasma
In 2014, technology was introduced to this project. Students were asked to add a video narrative to enhance the story behind one of their images. Third Graders Explore Communities and Cultures -
Behind the Scenes
In previous years volunteers had done this work. As the students became more fluent in their technology use, we wanted to give them more ownership of their work. Each student was responsible for uploading their photographs each week, organizing their work into folders, and making edits.
