P.A. Levene- Nucleotides
He determined the basic nucleotides that make up DNA. Resource: http://moodle.berea.k12.oh.us/mod/resource/view.php?inpopup=true&id=47397 -
Fredrick Griffith
Griffith studied two types of bacteria, the first one was streptococcus pneumoniae. that caused pneumonia. He found that one strain can be transformed into another. two of the strains that were made one was coated in sugar and was wasn't covered. THe coated strain was a smooth strian and the other was a rough strain. Resource: http://moodle.berea.k12.oh.us/mod/resource/view.php?inpopup=true&id=47397 -
Oswald Avery
He concluded that when S cells in Griffith's experiment were killed, DNA was released. The R bacteria imported the this DNA into their cells and changed it to S cells. Resource: http://moodle.berea.k12.oh.us/mod/resource/view.php?inpopup=true&id=47397 -
Erwin Chargaff
Chargaff found that the amount guanine nearly equals the amount of cytosine and the amount of adenine nearly equals the amount of thymine with a species (C=G and T=A). Resource: http://moodle.berea.k12.oh.us/mod/resource/view.php?inpopup=true&id=47397 -
Rosalind Franklin
She collected the data used by Watson and Crick in her new photo 51, it indicated that DNA was a double helix, or twisted ladder shape, formed by two strans of nucleotides twisted around each other. Resource: http://moodle.berea.k12.oh.us/mod/resource/view.php?inpopup=true&id=47397 -
Linus Pauling
Pauling proposed a triple standed helix for DNA. Resource: http://moodle.berea.k12.oh.us/mod/resource/view.php?inpopup=true&id=47397 -
Alfred Hershy and Martha Chase
They published experiments that provided evidence that DNA is a transforming factor. These experiments included bacteriophage. The experiment involed 2 steps, first bacteriophage made of DNA and protein was made, then the viruses couldn't replicate themselfs. They used a technique called radioactive labling to trace the fate of DNA and protein.

James Watson
Watson came up with the structure of DNA. He built a model of a double helix. Resource: http://moodle.berea.k12.oh.us/mod/resource/view.php?inpopup=true&id=47397 -
Francis Crick
Worked with Watson to come up with the structure of DNA and helped build the model of a double helix. Resource: http://moodle.berea.k12.oh.us/mod/resource/view.php?inpopup=true&id=47397 -
Maurice Wilkins
He contributions to the discovery of the structure of DNA. X-ray diffraction pictures done by Wilkins and his assistant Rosalind Franklin on the aligned fibers within DNA were seen by James Watson and Francis Crick who, incorporating what it revealed, were then able to build an accurate, detailed model of the DNA molecule. Wilkins, Watson, and Crick were awarded the Nobel Prize in Physiology and Medicine in 1962. Resource: http://www.nndb.com/people/979/000030889/
