Zacharias Jansen
Zacharias Jansen contributed to the Modern Cell Theory for inventing the microscope with the help of his father, Hans. Han's played a big role in the creation of the microscope. -
Robert Hooke
From 1663--1665
The cell was discovered by Robert Hooke in 1665. He looked and examined really small pieces of cork and saw a lot of tiny little pores. He called them cells but he still didn't know their structure or function. His discription of a cell was published in Micrographia. -
Mattias Scheiden
1838:
Scheiden discovered that the different parts of the plant organism are composed of cells. He recognized the importance of the cell nucleus and sensed its connection with the cell division. He stated that the cell is the basic building block of all plant matter. -
Theodore Schwann
1839:
Theodore Schwann was a master microscopest who examined animal tissue, which lead him to discover that all animals are made of cells. He continued his research and then discovered that all living organisms are made up of cells. -
Anton Van Leeuwenheok
1840:
Anton van Leeuwenhoek was the first scientist to closely observe cells under a microscope. He discovered that sperm and eggs are also cells. He discovered that microscopic organisms exist that cant be seen by the human eye. -
Rudolf Virchow
1855:
Robert Virchow stated that all cells result from a stated previous cell, saying that all living things come from other living things. He also stated that not all plants are made up of cells, this idea became a main/key piece to Modern Cell Theory. -
Modern Cell Theory
Three statements of the Modern Cell Theory:
1. All living organisms are composed of cells. They may be unicellular or multicellular.
2. The cell is the basic unit of life.
3, Cells arise from pre-exisitng cells.
