    Tea Act
    In 1173 the Tea Act was passed. This act gave rights to the British East India Company to ship tea without paying the usual taxes on the tea. This made the East India Company the cheapest and gave the British an advantage.

    Intolerbale Act/Coercive Act
    Inn result of the Boston Tea Party, parliament coercive acts (Americans called it intolerable acts). This act took away colonists rights and let soldiers search even more colonists homes.

    Common Sense

    Common Sense
    Common sense was written by Thomas Paine. It was a phamplet that expressed arguments for independence so that everyone could understand. He wanted people to support and fight for independence. This pamphlet resulted in half of the delegates in Philadelphia of Second Continental Congress agreeing with him about breaking away from Britan.

    Magna Carta
    The Magna Carta limited power of kings and gave that power over to the people. In 1199 King John had authority and treated the people very harshly. They were fed and forced him to sign this contract. The Magna Carta was written by English Nobles. The outcome was that no one above the law, not even the King.

    The Mayflower Compact was an agreement that when the Pilgrims reached the Plymouth they would make a government that was equal and everyone had to follow. It was written by the men aboard of the Mayflower. The outcome was that it was one of the first Direct Democracy.

    The English Bill of Rights is a government document that made better treatment for the English people. It was written by the Parliament and stated that certain things couldn't be done without Parliament's consent. The outcome of this was that English people had a say in what happened.

    Cato's letters are a collection of newspaper articles that were written by Cato The Elder and Cato the Younger. They were made to argue against the king's rules. The first amendment was partly based off of the letters by Cato.

    The French and Indian War took place from 1754-1763. It took place in North America. The war occurred due to conflict between England and France. The war resulted in Great Britan winning French territory. It was a very costly war, so Britan had to increase taxes.

    Mercantilism is the theory that countries should be selling more goods than they are buying. The Parliament made the American colonies make and sell raw materials at low prices and had them buy their products at higher prices which resulted in business suffering.

    The Stamp Act required colonists to attach expensive stamps onto newspapers and legal documents. The colonists were not happy about this. This is what started the slogan " No Taxation Without Repersentation" They started boycotting British goods, which led to the Stamp Act becoming repealed.

    The Declaratory Act was passed so that the Parliament could tax and make decisions for the American colonies.

    The Townshend was passed by Parliment placed new taxes and took away some freedoms from the colonists. This Act eventually led to the Boston Massacre.

    The Boston Massacre was a confrontation in which British soldiers shot and killed several people while being harassed by a mob in Boston. The outcome was that it helped unite the colonies against the British.

    The First Continental Congress was formed in Philadelphia and lasted seven weeks. They sent a letter to King George demanding for the rights to be restored. The King did not respond well. The outcome was the battle of Lexington and Concord and

    The Second Continental Congress was formed in Philidelphia. Some of the members did not favor congress. By 1776 more than half of the members agreed with Thomas Pains "Common Sense"
  • Lexington and Concord

    Lexington and Concord
    The Battle of Lexington and Concord took place in Massachusetts and became known as the first battles of the Revolutionary War. The outcome of these battles made colonists question their attachment to Britan.
  • Decleration of Independence

    Decleration of Independence
    It was an official act taken by all 13 American colonies in declaring independence from British rule. Thomas Jefferson was the main one who wrote it and he explained why the United States should be a free nation.
