The Beginnings of Public Education
Going from one room schoolhouses to grade school was a huge step in our education system. It started because Canadians wanted their children to be able to read, write and do arithmetic. Although this was many of the parents, not everyone was in favour, why? Differentiated Instruction in public education
There were some great advocates for differentiated instruction in late 1800s and throughout the 1900s. Preston Search, John Dewey, Sydney Pressy, Fred Keller, Lev Vygotsky are a few of the main ones that date back to even 1880 (right at the beginning of the public education grade school system)!
