  • Bank Holidays

    Sir John Lubbock introduced bank holidays ( a concept of holiday with pay) which meant people got a day off work and people could travel more.
  • National Parks

    The 10 first national parks in the peak district in 1951
  • Benidorm 1953

    The mayor of Benidorm, Pedro Zaragoza, appealed to general franco to lift the bikini ban to increase inbound tourism.
  • Ferries

    The first 2 drive on drive off ferries were opened at the Eastern docks which meant that people could take their cars on holiday with them instead of hiring.
  • Butlins:1960's

    A monorail was introduced from Butlins to Skegness as well as chairlifts and a pool with underwater viewing windows, which made Butlins more advanced due to these better facilities for families.
  • 1960 Comet

    The comet was the worlds first passenger carrying jet airliner, built and designed in Britain. the BBC stated that 'it revolutionised air travel.' however it had 3 catastrophic crashes in March 1953, which evidence revealed in the inquiry that 'metal fatigue concentrated at the corners of the aircraft's windows had caused the crashes, all aircraft were redesigned with rounded windows.'
  • Butlins 1970

    The idea of being a holiday camp faded as package holidays were getting more popular as the visitors grew.
  • Dubai

    Dubai became one of the most major tourism destinations.
  • Trip Advisor 2004

    Trip advisor launched to hopefully provide depth and recommendations on hotels, restaurants and flights etc. that consumers were looking for. Now 280 million people use the sight to research before travelling.
  • China

    They hosted the olympic games increasing the amount of tourist visiting.
  • 2011 rail

    Between 2010 and 2011, the number of rail journeys in Great Britain reached a record of 1.16 million, so more people were travelling by trains than any other mode of transport.
