    Democracy was first introduced by Cleisthens (An Athenian Leader) he called it "demokratia" or "rule by the people." There were three branches, Ekklesia - wrote laws and dictated foreign policy, Boule -representitives from all ten Athenian tribes, Dikasteria - citizens argued cases to randomly selected jurors. This allowed each tribe to make decisions, citizens got a roll in city affairs and more rights. But, only men over the age of 18, born in greece (parents too) and owned land were citizens.

    Rome invents the Senate (509 BCE - 27 BCE)
    Rome wasnt ever a democracy like today or when the Greeks created it. In the beginning all the pwer was given to the patricians (upper class). They ruled over the plebs (common people). The plebs rebelled, winning rights and helping to create a new democratic instituction calles the Senate. Only the Patricians could be senators but citizens had more say. Again, only free men were considered citizens, women were in a completely different class.

    The Magna Carta is signed by King John
    King John was forced to sign the Magna Carta, a document that ment the monarchys power would be restricted and citizens would be safe gaurded. This document stated that the king could not: steal firewood, force a widow to re-marry, take horses or carts, force villagers to build bridges over rivers and make knights pay money to be eccused from the castle. This made it harder for the king to get everything that he wanted and this was one place that British Parliament grew from.

    The american reolution created the first true democracy, Americans could vote and there were three branches to ensure that not one branch had too much power, this way if one branch tried to abuse their power the other two branches could override it. Although, women and African Americans were not allowed to vote.

    The French Revolution started in the spirit of democracy,the middle class in France rose to overthrow King Louis XVI and Queen Marie Antoinette. At the end of the reolution those that championed liberty were corrupted and the leaders used the guillotine to get rid of the opposition. All of the power fell to Napoleon (a military dictator) who then tried to use his power to take over Europe.

    The Communist Manifesto was writen in 1848 by Karl Marx outlining Communism. In 1917 Vladamir Lenin over threw the Russian Tzar and takes Karl Marx Communist Manifesto and adapts it to fit his purposes. The KGB and Gulag Stalin kill 20-30 Russians through purges and starvation, Gulag Stalin then sends the world into the Cold War that lasted until early in the 90's.

    Shortly after the end of World War One Benito Mussolini formes a fascist governement in Italy. Using force and Black Shirts to keep the order in Italy.

    In the 1920's Adolf Hitler, ex army corpral and former homless Austrian found his voice. He got his followers in the war torn Germany, and spewed hate against Jews and Communists and promised Germany that he would undo the effects caused by the Treaty of Versailles. With all of his power Adolf Hitler caused World War Two, killing 55 million people, murdering 6 million Jews and 5 million "enimies of the state".

    The United Nations made the decleration of Human Rights stating that people have the right to live and work without any abuse from the governments, and, that all people are born free and equal and that all have the right to life, liberty and the security of person. This didn't solve all of the human rights problems, people's human rights are being abused all over the world.
