Materials and Equipment
Consists of : shovels, wooden stakes, hamer, marker tape, rebar stakes, apple, orange, cup, paper, composition chip bag, chip bag, foil, and cotton. -

What are the decomposition rates of different items? -
hypothesis
I beleive that the apple will be most decomposed. I also think it will be about 45% of the way decomposed.

Procedures
On March 23rd, we dug 8-10 in. Then we buried each item in a seperate hole. We will document the changes of weather, tempature, wind, and humidity. As well as document the changes in the items when we dig them up after 9 weeks. -
Weather/ weather description
The weather is important to decomposition. It must be warm and humid enough for decomposition organisms to be very active.The weather today was sunny with temp. of 44 F, the high being 65 F, humidity 50%, wind 12 mph NE, and baro. press. 30.16 in. -
styrofoam
styrofoam takes around 50 years to decompose, it is mostly uneconomical, and its sources are widespread. I beleive it will be 10% decomposed by the end of the nine weeks. -

aluminum foil
Aluminum foil takes a very long time to decompose, it is easily recycled though, and it has a large source third only to silicon and oxygen. I beleive it will be 2% decomposed by the end of the nine weeks. -

The sun chips bag is made to decompose 100% in 14 weeks time when placed in a composite heap.I beleive it will be 55% decomposed. -

The chips bag is a slow decomposition object. It is best to give it to a recyclinng company to recycle it properly.I beleive it will be 15% decomposed. -

Apple
The apple will decompose quickly I beleive. It is fine just to throw the apple away if you want, in fact if you wanted you could just put it in a garden or something and it would be fine. It will probably be 75% decomposed at the end of the nine weeks. -
Paper
The paper has a quick decomposition rate and it is fine to recycle by mill braking and many other sorts of things.I beleive the paper will be 70% decomposed. -

Cotton
The cotton is easy to get recycled you can just take it to a charity shop and they will take it of to be recycled.I beleive the cotton will be 45% decomposed. -
Orange
The orange decomposes fine on its own though it does take longer than most other fruits to decompose all the way. I beleive it will be 70% decomposed by the end of the nine weeks. -

The weather this week is very sunny and HOT! It is certainly feeling like summer now! We also had some rain mixed in! -
apple conclusion
The apple is 95% decomposed. I was not surprised to find that the apple was decomposed the most. I was however surprised to see that it was so far along! -
Foil conclusion
The foil was 0% decomposed which didnt surprise me. Foil is a very tuff substance when it comes to decomposing.I did think it would be a little bit more decomposed than it was but oh well, just a guess any way and I got close! -
Paper conclusoin
The paper is 20% decomposed.The paper was very surprising, I thought it would be far more decomposed than it was. It does however still fall down to 20% ! -
Orange conclusion
The orange is 90% decomposed. It was interesting to see how it decomposed so much like the apple. I figured it would be further behind the apple in the prosses but it proved me wrong! -
reg. chips bag cunclusion
The regular chips bag was 15% decomposed. I guessed exactly right on the decomposition rate of this! I was very happy about that! -
sun chips bag conclusion
The sun chips bag is 80% decomposed. It was more so decomposed than I thought it would be. I think its an interesting thing to see! -
Styrofoam conclusion
The styrofoam is 5% decomposed. I thought the styrofoam's decomposition rate was interesting to see. I thought it would be at least 10% -
cotton conclusion
The cotton is 0% decomposed. I was surprised to see how well the cotton held together. I had thought that it would be 45%. I geuss that is so because its tightly packed together!
