    Problem
What are the decomposition rates for different items? The items are styrofoam, aluminum foil, sun chips bag, regualar chips bag, apple, newspaper, cotton, orange.
  • Hypothesis

    Hypothesis
I believe the apple will decompose the most over the period of time. The weather has been mild at the end of this week.
  • Period: to

    dig

  • Procedure

    Procedure
We went outside and found a specific place to dig 8" to 10". Then we buried the items and covered the hole back up with dirt so the items wouldn't fly out. After that we waited till 8 weeks went by.
  • Materials and Equipment

  • Weather

  • Apple Conclusion

    Apple Conclusion
The apple decomposed a lot probably about 85%. The bad thing was that the apple stank like dog poop.
  • Foil Conclusion

    Foil Conclusion
The foil did not decompose if it did all it was maybe 5%.In the picture the foil looks decomposed but it really isn't.
  • Paper Conclusion

    Paper Conclusion
The paper decomposed a little but not a whole lot. It got really dirty though, but it probably decomposed 10%.
  • Orange Conclusion

    Orange Conclusion
The orange decomposed quite a bit, but not as much as the orange. It decomposed probably 80%.
  • Regular Chips Bag Conclusion

    Regular Chips Bag Conclusion
The regular chips bag decomposed very little. It decomposed probably about 6%.
  • Cotton Conclusion

    Cotton Conclusion
The cotton did not decompose at all. The cotton got really dirty in the ground though.
  • Styrofoam Conclusion

    Styrofoam Conclusion
The styrofoam decomposed probably about 23.24312%. It got split into pieces though.
  • Sun Chip Bag Conclusion

    Sun Chip Bag Conclusion
The sun chip bag decomposed somewhat probably about 41.287562%. It also got torn up.
