DC US History Timeline: 1700-1800

  • Stono Rebellion

    New Spain offered freedom to any slaves who would convert to cathocalism, and pledge their allegiance to Spain. Many slaves rebelled and left for Spain. One of the most famous ones is thr Stono Rebellion
  • Ben Franklin discovers Electricity

    Franklin uses his famous "Key and Kite" experiement to find electricity
  • Start of French and Indian War

    The French and Indians go to war. Britian helps pay, which later leads to debt which they use taxes on the colonies to pay off.
  • Stamp Act

    The first act imposed by Britian. This was a tax on all paper items, including, newspaper, books, cards, licenses and more.
  • The Boston Tea Party

    Colonists became tired of taxes, some dressed as Indians and dumped tea into the Boston harbor as payback to Britian.
  • Start of American Revolution

    The Americans rebel against Britian because they feel wronged by the unfair treatment.
  • The Articles of Confederation

    The Articles of Confedration was America's first attempt at governing itself. The Articles were a major failure and they met at a later date to fix them.
  • The Decleration of Independence is Written

    56 colonists gathered to write and sign a list of greivances they called "the Declaration of Independence"
  • Troops cross the Delaware River

    George Washington successfully crossed the Delaware River with his troops. This allowed them to attack the Hessians at Trenton.
  • Battle of Yorktown

    This was the last battle of the American Revolution
  • End of the American Revolution

    The Americans won their freedom from Britian
  • Constitution written

    Delegates meet at the Constitutional Convention in an attempt to fox the Articles of Confederation. Instead the end up scrapping it and starting over. The constitution was the result of the meeting.
  • George Washington becomes President of the US

    George Washington wins the first presidential election by a landslide
  • George Washington refuses a Third Term as President

    Washington's refusal to lead a third term set a standard for all the other presidents. John Adams begins his first year as president.
