Initial outreach
We begin initial outreach to NFI partners to guage interest level from potential interviewees and interviewers. First outreach will focus on established partners like Mamie D. Lee Community Garden where NFI has its demonstration garden. This includes recruitment of scholar from experienced gardeners in MDL community. -

First day work-study student from Garden Education Program
NFI's Garden Education Program begins, and work-study student will be available to work on oral history project. -
Document development
Beginning of writing of interview documents with emphasis on interview questions and release forms. Director will also draft language for email, web, and social media posting as outreach to partner organizations. -
Identification of interview interns
Recruitment of two paid interviewer interns responsible for [...] hours of work over grant seaon. -

Outreach to potential interviewees
Beginning of outreach to interviewees through connections to community gardens, peer organizations in Field to Fork Network, farmers markets, neighborhood hardware stores, and word of mouth. Outreach will be ongoing, but first months in June and July will be more intense. -
Interviewer training
Director will work with scholar and paid interviewers to finalize interview questions, learn how to use equipment, and practice interview skills. -
Interviews begin
Interviews begin after interviewers have scheduled times and places. After interview has been completed, file is downloaded from iPad or laptop and copied onto second location. -
Check in with scholar
Director and interviewers meet with scholar to assess quality of interview and outreach strategies. These meetings will happen on biweekly basis through end of project. -
Outreach and interviews continue
Work of project continues with biweekly meetings with scholar. -
Content notes begin
Director will work with work-study intern to create content notes for interviews and identify key portions of interviews. They will listen for narratives touching on food culture and practical gardening advice. Notetaking will continue for duration of project. -
Initial planning with graphic designer
Director and others will meet with volunteer graphic designer to discuss upload and display of interview content on NFI website and for events. -
Work continues
Interviewing, outreach, note-taking, and design continue. -
End of project check in
Key players in project will guage progress and likelihood of meeting goals. Added outreach will happen as needed. -
Launch event planning
Project director and NFI staff will begin planning details for events in autumn to share results of project at restaurants, libraries, and other venues. -
Wrap up of project.
Final interviews are completed. Plan for digital presentation is implemented and tested. Product is shared with interviewees with much gratitude and feedback on their experience. -
Release parties
Events celebrating project and sharing the interviews happen at 2 or 3 venues. -
