At age 6 I became interested in playing with and typing on my grandmother's IBM Electronic Typewriter. It didn't have a screen, and was not a "word processor," but it had electrical mechanics that enabled one to type with little pressure on the keys. -
Brother got a first generation Nintendo, I wasn't allowed to use it much
My brother earned a first generation Nintendo for his room after achieving a certain score on a spelling test that was being used as a fundraiser for 5th grade outdoor education. -

Apple IIe used in my classroom
The Apple IIe computer was in my classroom and we played educational games like Oregon Trail, and a space themed Disney game. These were role playing style games, that involved reading, typing, and almost no animation. The display was green/black monochrome. -
Received a Nintendo Gameboy for Christmas
This was one of the first handheld gaming devices, and can be viewed as foreshadowing the current wave of nano-technology. -
My parents purchased a Tandy computer for me
My parents purchased a Tandy computer for me from Radioshack. It was meant to be a Christmas gift, but they gave it to me when it was purchased in November. My brother had had various game consoles and cable TV in his room for some time, and I had nothing, so I was given a computer. The Tandy computer had DOS as its' shell, but it also ran the Tandy operating system. -

Used Tandy computer daily to communicate on BBSs and develop typing skills
I used the Tandy computer daily to communicate with other computer users through peer to peer connections made over the phone line through a modem, on Bulletin Board Systems or BBSs that were hostd on other people's computers. I could chat with the host of the BBS or post in forums to communicate with other users. I also used software to learn to type and created documents with Printshop and my dot matrix printer during this period. I also learned to navigate using the DOS command line -
Created a 'Zine using photocopying only
My friends and I created a magazine using the photocopying machines at Kinko's and some documents typed on computers, but the pages were assembled by cutting/pasting actual paper, then photocopying. -

I took computer based typing and desktop publishing
During my senior year of high school I took typing and desktop publishing to fulfill the vocational ed. graduation requirement. Typing was taught on Apple IIe's, but desktop publishing used more advanced Macs and included scanning technology. -
I will never use the Internet
As part of my anti-establishment, rebellious, adolescent perspective, I vowed to never use the internet. -

I took a class at UOP on creating/recording music with computers. I used Finale and Logic Audio on a Macintosh computer. I had been recording in studios for the three years prior, and found the ability to record and produce on my own exciting and liberating -

After studying Music Education at UOP, I transfered to SSU and earned a BA in Music with an emphasis in Musical Composition and Recording Technology. I learned to use computers to record, produce and publish music. -

Immediately after graduating from SSU, I began working as an IT/AV Systems Administrator at Copia the American Center for Wine, Food and the Arts. The phone was a Nokia "brick" phone and did not support images, only calling and texting. -

I worked in the Technical Support and Testing departments at Sibelius Software, a music technology software company specializing in score writing/music publishing software. -
Began working as an IT Consultant at SSU
I began working full time in an IT capacity, in order to move back to Sonoma County. -

I became certified in Apple hardware and software in order to perform warranty repairs for the SSU IT department. -
Purchased my first Apple Laptop
After using an older Apple laptop from the SSU IT department, I purchased an iBook G4 for my own personal use. -

Left the technology field for work as a Teacher then Principal
In 2006 I left the SSU IT department to work as a musci teacher because I was not fulfilled by working solely in technology. I have continued to use technology and teach Music Technology, but do not maintain my IT knowledge, as I am not interested in technology for technolgy's sake. -
Taught Music Technology Tools and Applications at SSU
I taught this intrductory course in Music Technology at SSU for the first time in the Spring of 2007. I am teaching it for the third time now, in the fall of 2014. -
