Aggie Academy - Slap HitAt Games and Practices I am starting to feel more comfortable slap-hitting. I didn't get a hit this game but I walked three times and struck out once, so I didn't get much chance to hit the ball. The last time I swung before I stuck out I broght my hands out and swung past the ball instead of keeping my hands in a letting my bat head hit the ball. I don't have any control if my hands aren't in close to my body, thats why I stuck out instead of hitting the ball or foulling it off.

  • Practice

    Practice
Today at practice we didn't do very much hitting, but I did find out another reason why it was harder for me to hit the ball. The reason was I wasn't watching the ball all the way into the strike zone, but after I figured that out I made contact with the ball more offten.
  • Practice

    Practice
Today I practiced tracking the ball all the way into the strike zone. When I did track the ball I would hit the ball nine times out of ten, but if I forgot to then I would miss the ball completely.

Jessica Mendoza Softball Training - HIT: SlappingToday I continued praticing tracking the ball into the skrike zone, and bringing my hands to the ball.
  • Thinking

At First when my coah Gary told me that he wanted to turn me around to the other side of the plate I wasn't sure about it. Now I am very thankful that he did because as I continue to inprove I think I am going to get on base more then I did just hitting right. Gary said one of the reasons why he swiched me was because I do better in motion, and that he thought I would get on base more because you are a couple steps closer to first when you hit from the left side.
  • Game cancelled

    Game cancelled
I had no games this week because of weather. it just means at practices I work exctra hard. Tomorrow at practice I am going to track the ball all the way into the strike zone. I will also practice hitting the ball to the short stop.
  • rained out

    rained out
the importance of slap-hitting I havent played softball for a long time, two game were cancelled one cancelled because of weather and same with one of my practices. Hopefully my practice tomorrow isn't rained out. All I want to do right now is swing my bat.
  • Practice

At practice I tried really hard to watch the ball all the wall into the strike zone. I hit a couple really good ones, but most of them were fouls. It doesn't matter that I hit lots of fouls though because it means I got my bat to the ball instead of missing it completely.

    Game
Today the pitching wasn't very good, I walked twise. I didn't get very many stricks . I am getting a little better at tracking the ball all the way into the strick zone, but I still need to practice. Sometimes it is really frustrating because I can slap really well when my coah Gary is throwing to me, but once I step in the batters box it's a whole different story.
  • Game

    Game
At the game tonight Gary said my feet were going to fast so I slowed down a little and hit with a half swing. That got me a perfect hit on the left side of second base. To get that hit I also watched the ball come all the way into the strick zone.
  • Game

    Game
At our practice before our game I kept dropping my hands so all the balls I hit went foul. To solve my problem Gary told me to bring my hands back a little when I take my first step back. I followed his advice but I didn't really get a chance to use it in the game because I walked four times. We won 17-5.
  • Practice

    Practice
At practice today I hit really well. I kept my eye on the ball, didn't drop my hands ( or barely ), always did my loading with my hands, and hit to the left side ( almost every time). I am really happy and proud of how fast I am learning. I still have a long ways to go, but I am making progress!
  • tournament

Yesterday my team had a one day tournament in richmon. My hiting was OK. I got acouple hits, but I started getting frustrated because I couldn't get my bat on the ball most of the time. Even though this is my first year trying slapping and it took amanda (one of my friends on my team) a couple years to really get how slapping works I still think I could hit more then I am.

When I slap I need to remember to not swing full. Since I am learning to slap I'am not a power slapper yet, I'am hitting it to the ground so it will bounce and I 'am also trying to hit it to the short stop or third base. Gary says that since I am fast and if I just get the ball in play I will most likely get on base.

    game
softball players helping each other I didn't really get to slap in this game because I wanted ot try and hit a couple just left handed. I didn't even really get to do that because I bunted twise and got hit once. When I was practicing though my swings seemed pretty good. the link that I found has nothing to do with my slap-hitting but I really like it.

    game
Yesterday at my game I got up to bat 6 times! I have never been up to bat that much in one game, and I hit every time. When I was practicing to get ready for my game Gary told me to just take one step insteadof running and so I did, and when ever I swung my bat I got comtact with the ball even during the game. This weekend I have a tournament in addotsford, I am so excited! I have three game on saturday, one on sunday and playoffs if we get in.
  • Games

the past two games and tournament I have been getting at lest two hits per game ( just slaping). A couple games ago gary told me to take out a step in my slap, so instead I would load with my hands then take one cross over step and hit the ball. I have been getting contact more offtine now. I have to practice when I start my slap though, because I over run the ball sometimes when I am bating in a game.
  • game

    game
At todays game I got three hits (slapping) and walked three times. Usually on a harder team I would only get up three times. The three times I slapped the ball I watched the ball all the way into the strick zone, and had my footing in the right place at the right time.
  • practice

Today at practice Gray made us (my team) hit against the pitching machine, but tis time it was going 60mph. It was really fast but everyone got their bat on the ball including me. I loasded really early and made contact with the ball
  • what I've learned

My slapping and my focus when I'm in the batters box has improved. My coach emailed me some slapping videos, I've only watched one so far but I already have learned more. My cross over foot use to be lined up with the pitcher, but after I watched one of the videos I started to practice lining my foot up with the short stop. Doing that makes it easyer for me to keep my hips closed ( hipes not facing the pitcher) so I would have more control when I slap.
  • why I'm a slapper

    why I'm a slapper
Since i'm learning to slap I just do soft slapping which is a half swing just so I get the ball on the ground. Another girl on my team named Amanda is also a slapper she has been slapping for about four years. My coach Gary turned her into a lefty then tought her how to slap just like he did with me. The reason he turned just us into lefty slappers is because were fast and because we do better when we're in motion.
  • Playoffs

Slapping Part 4- India chiles This weekend my team played the 98 wildcats to get into the privincels. We won, and in those couple games I only struck out once. I hit every other time by bunting, slapping up the middle, and slapping to the short stop or third base. Gary told us our stats form softball city after the first game this weekend and I found out that I got on base the most out of anyone on my team. I also watched the last part of India Chiles slapping video.
  • I achieved my goal

    I achieved my goal
My goal was to get better at Slapping, and I have definitely achieved my goal. I still have a long way to go but I've gotten way better at slapping since I started this timeline.
