  • Carl Vinson

    Carl Vinson
    Vinson was renown for being the father of "Two-Ocean Navy" and an outstanding dean of the United States House of Representatives. He offered aid and advice for military matters until he retied in 1964. Due to his efforts and words of wisdom, the US experienced much prosperity and an aircraft carrier was named after Vinson. In a ddition to this, he also recieved the Presidential Medal of Freedom, he is one cool dude!

  • Richard Russel

    Richard Russel
    Richard Russel was a UGA graduate, one of the youngest members of the Georgia General Assembly and a Governor of Georgia. In addition to this, he served in the U.S. Senate for around 40 years! During the war, hehelped the U.S, prepare for combat and brough research facilities and15 military bases to the state he had stayed so loyal to (GA).

    The Holocaust was the mass-murder of millions of Jews across Europe and will forever be remembered as one of the periods days in history. Concentration camps worked Jews (and everyone else that Hitler dissaproved of) until they died, but this horrific event didnt simply impact Europeans, the effects spread across the Atlantic and raised awareness about the event. Survivors who had moved to GA drastically altered the existing racial, sterotypical, and other harmful labels neighbors had created.

    Bell Aircraft (founded)
    This company provided great help throughout the war, yet many are ablivious to its accomplishments. Bell Aircraft originated in Marietta, Georgia and manufactured the most futuristic bomber of the era, the b-29. Georgia supplied many essential tools like this throughout the war in addittion to training and a surplus of bases.

    Women's Impact on WWII
    As men went to fight in the war, women were left at home to care for themselves and their families. In order to help withthe war efforts, many engaged in industrial jobs that their husbands once preformed and pushed the nation forward. Without women lending a helping hand in the factories and overall advancement of the natin, the US couldnt have been nearlyy successful as they were.

    WWII: Outbreak in Europe
    In mid-August of 1939, Adolf Hitler was steaming with rage and a thirst for revenge as he signed a pact that greatly worried the Allied forces. The pact reensured that he could easily enter Poland with the help of Joseph Stalin. On September 1, 1939, Hitler marched into Poland, ready to attack; a couple days later, France and Great Britain declared war on Germany, commencing World War II.

  • Savannah Shipyard

    Savannah Shipyard
    Thousands of Americans helped the war effort by working at the Savannah Shipyard, and most of these people were women whose husband's were fighting for their beloved nation. The ships found here were used to move supplies and troops back and forth between the European and Pacific territories. A majority of the "liberty ships" utilized throughout the war were actually built here!

  • Brunswick Shipyard

    Brunswick Shipyard
    When FDR announced the emergency shipbuilding programs, Brunswick was one of the first (out of 16) ports to be chosen haul valuable cargo across the Atlantic. The Liberty Ships were constructed here at a rapid face and became a soource of pride for many Georgian's. The scene also atracted many reporters and journalists later onas well.

  • Lend-Lease Act

    Lend-Lease Act
    The U.S. had managed not to get involved with the war efforts until December of 1941, but tension had been brewing between President Roosevelt and Congress. To make sure that Germany and Japan did not become too powerful, America sent the Allies supplies and aid.Under this act, the U.S. was able to send the Allied forces food, oil, and other materials; in return we were offered military bases in several of these countries.

  • Pearl Harbour

    Pearl Harbour
    On December 7, 1941, around 300 Japanese planes bombed Pearl Harbour, an esteemed naval base in Hawaii, in efforts to attempt to cripple U.S. troops and gain an advantage over the existing Allied forces. Approximately 3,842 men were killed and about 207 ships were sunk as this even was marked as one of the worst attacks in U.S. history. In addition to that title, it also gave thousands of Americans a stong motive to join the war.

  • Formation of United Nations

    Formation of United Nations
    On January 1, 1942, representatives of 26 nations, who supported the Allied powers, met in Washington to sign the Declaration of the United Nations. This document required each nation to pledge to do everything in their power to oppose the Axis powers. They also agreed not to make seperate peace.

    D-Day
    In military terms, d-day is the date in which an attack is planned for initiation and one of the most famous ones was on June 6, 1944. Its one of the most famous because the Allies freed large parts of Europe from germany's clutches. It was also known as "The Day of the Normandy Landings".

  • Yalta Conference

    Yalta Conference
    This conference was also known as the Crimea Conference and at the time, code named the Argonaut Conference. The leaders of the Soviet Union, UK, and US met to discuss their plans after the war at this meeting. FDR, Winston Churchill, and Joseph Stalin gathered at the Livadia Palace a share their opinions for hours on end.

  • Hitler's Death

    Hitler's Death
    Adolf Hitler used a gun to commit suicide with his wife on April 30, 1945. Later that day, a set of directions he had left behind were followed and the bodies were burned inside a bunker. Soviet data confirms that the ashes were found, yet no trace of couple was left.

    Bomb Dropped on Hiroshima
    During this event, the US and UK agreed to drop bombs on a major Japanese city, Hiroshima. They agreed to go as far as use nuclear weapons because they felt that their nations were at risk and the Japanese had nothing to lose at this point. The effect of this renown bombing can still be observed today...was it really such a good idea?

    Bomb Dropped on Nagasaki
    Nagasaki was the second city to be attacked, pushing the imits to the extreme and crushing the sliver of power the Japanese had left. This destroyed all thoughts of retaliation and killed thousands of innocent people either on the spot or within a matter of days, For some, the effects of the radiation didnt catch up to them until years hadgone by. Nevertheless, the efects did and still exist today.
