Crossfit Timeline

  • Start of CrossFit

    CrossFit was created as a type of physical exercise and as a competitive sport in 2000 by Greg Glassman in Santa Cruz California. This type of workout incorporates elements of high-intensity interval training, Olympic weightlifting, plyometrics, powerlifting, gymnastics, girevoy sport, calisthenics, strongman and other exercises.
  • Popularity Over The Years

    The original CrossFit gym came to be about in 2000 in Santa Cruz California. The first CrossFit gym created after this was in Seattle Washington and by 2005 there were a total of 13 gyms created. Today there are now more than 13,000 CrossFit gyms all over the United States.
  • CrossFit Games

    The first-ever CrossFit Games was created in 2007. It included a small group of around 70 athletes that gathered at a ranch in northern California for the inaugural CrossFit Games. Athletes at the games compete in workouts that consist mostly of standard aerobic, weightlifting, and gymnastics movements as well as some surprise elements like obstacle courses.
  • About the CrossFit Games

    The CrossFit Games are broken up into three stages. The first stage is the Open which consists of a five-week workout competition. The top athletes from this stage then move on to Regionals which is a three-day competition where the athletes try to earn qualifying spots for the CrossFit Games. The fittest 40 men, fittest 40 women, and fittest 40 teams earn qualifying spots in the games. The CrossFit games then rank the worlds fittest individuals and determine who is the fittest on earth.
  • Fittest Men/Women on Earth

    The fittest man on earth for 2018 was Mathew Fraser. The fittest women on earth for 2018 was Tia-Clair Toomey. Lastley, the fittest team on early was CrossFit Mayhem Freedom.
