Magna Carta passed
This was the first principle of limited government. It created the idea of liimited power to the ruler (at that time King), and protection against unjust punishment. -
First Colony is Established at Jamestown
This is the first permanent english settlement. This is significant because it was the beginning of the US. -
The Bill of Rights
This set clear limits on Government power, doing things like making it so the parliament had to give consent, and giving people the rights to petition the government which is relevant today. -
British Defeat of the French/ French Indian war
The defeat of the French meant that American colonists no longer needed British protection against the French. -
The Stamp Act passed
This was the first direct tax on the colonists. Its important because it caused the Boston Tea Party. -
Stamp Act Congress Meet
This was the first congress meeting to protest agianst King George, and a petition was sent to the King. -
Boston Tea Party
These began after the taxes were placed among the colonists. This caused te Intolerable Acts. -
Intolerable Acts passed
This both closed the Boston Harbor, and then it took the rights of Massachusettes to govern itself. This is important because it caused the American Revolution. -
First Continental Congress Meets
This is when teh delegates from all colonies met, and they discussed what to do about Great Britain. This let to the Stamp Act Congress meet. -
Second Continental Congress Meet
This was when the 13 colonies came together and made George Washington the commander of the continental army. There were also supplied prucahsed, treadies negotiated, and support rallied. -
Shots Heard Round the World is Fired
This was when the redcoats clashed with the colonial minutemen, and was the first battle of the Revolutionary War. -
Declaration of Independence
This was the unanimous delcaration of the thirteen states of America, and is one of the most famous documents in history. -
Ratification of Articles of Confederation
This contiuned the structure under the second continental congress meeting, and did a lot for the US. It established a fair policy, created peace with Great Britain and created a department of affairs, including a lot of departments. -
Unanimous Ratification of Confederation
The small states ratified this before the big ones because they wanted equal representation. -
Constitutional Convention begins
George Washington was voted to become the meeting "ruler" and this was when each state started to have one vote. There also had to be 7 delegates present to be able to hold the meeting.
