Creating Mobile Maker Spaces

  • CA STEM conference

Science teachers attend NGSS conference and attend sessions focused on Maker Spaces.
  • Planning Meeting

Admin and department chair meet to discuss the future of mobile maker spaces. Discuss budget, human/capitol resources, and timeline for implementation.
  • Visit Maker Spaces

There are many Maker Spaces in LA county currently funded to provide Maker Spaces at public libraries throughout the county. Our teacher will attend a few of these with small student groups to get ideas and feedback from students and parents. This will be repeated 2-3 times throughout the Spring semester.
  • Summer Planning

After attending a few events, our teacher will come up with 2-3 Maker activities that can be transportable, meet NGSS standards, and can be scaffolded for grade levels K-12. She may have to host events by grade level for some activities.
  • Reflect and Revise

At the end of the school year, the teacher and administrators should reflect on the success of the events. Surveys will be reviewed and teacher feedback will be used to make the events more efficient and effective. By 20-21, we will hope to double our Mobile Maker experiences to at least 2 per region each year.
  • Book Maker Locations

Locations need to be scouted and booked for pop up events. The calendar for the year should be created in advance. Produce at least one event per region to start.
  • Host Mobile Maker Spaces

The teacher will host at least one location per region in the school. Activities will correspond to the approved activities from the summer. Each event will have a follow up survey to get feedback from parents and students in attendance.
