Fist Battle of Bull Run
The First Battle of Bull Run took place on July 21, 1861 near Manassas Virginia. This battle was the first major land battle of the Civil War. Both Union and Confederate had inexperienced troops leading to a 2 hour fight that ended with the confederate win due to the Union retreating. The battle resulted in around 4,700 casualties with the Union suffering more than the confederacy. -
Battle of Shiloh
The Battle of Shiloh was fought on April 6-7,1862, in southern Tennessee. The Battle started when Union General Ulysses Grant launched an operation to capture the Confederate railroad junction at Corinth, Mississippi, which was a vital transportation hub for the Confederacy. The Battle of Shiloh was one of the bloodiest battles of the Civil War, it had about 23,000 total casualties which at the time was one of the bloodiest battles in the Civil War. -
Battle of Antietam
The battle of Antietam was fought September 17,1862, near Sharpsburg Maryland. This battle was the first battle that took place on Union soil and to this day remains the single bloodiest day in American history with about 23,000 casualties in a single day. The battle ended in draw due either side not making any progress. -
The Battle of Fredericksburg
The Battle of Fredericksburg was a major battle in the Civil War, it was fought on December 11-15, 1862, around Fredericksburg, Virginia. This battle was won by the Union And one of the Unions most significant defeats during the war. This battle is remembered for the staggering losses suffered by the Union. They suffered around 12,600 casualties compared to the confederates 5,300 casualties. -

Battle of Chancellorsville
The Battle of Chancellorsville was a major battle in the Civil War it was a battle that lasted form April 30 to May 6, 1863. It was fought in Spotsylvania County, Virginia. This battle was one of the most significant confederate victories of the war. It was a strategic victory for the Confederacy, but came with a cost the confederates suffered heavy casualties. The Union suffered around 17,000 casualties and the confederates suffered around 14,000. -
Siege of Vicksburg
The Siege of Vicksburg was a fought from May 18 to July 4, 1863. It was fought in Vicksburg Mississippi, and was a pivotal moment in the war. The siege started with a series of unsuccessful assaults on the confederate defense. With these unsuccessful attempts general Grant started attacking the city from land and river, cutting off the confederate supplies. Confederate suffering from deteriorating supplies and attacks from the Union were losing the fight. They surrendered July 4, 1863. -
Battle of Gettysburg
The battle Gettysburg was fought from July 1 to July 3, 1863. This battle resulted in a high number of casualties on both sides. It took place in Gettysburg, Pennsylvania. This battle had the larges number of casualties of the entire war. The battle was looked at as a turning point for the Union because it force General Lee’s army to retreat. Over 50,000 soldiers were killed on both sides in the battle of Gettysburg. -
Battle of Sptsylvania Court House
This battle took place in Spotsylvania county, Virginia from May 8th to May 21, 1864. The battle was led by Union General Ulysses Grant against Confederate General Robert Lee. This fight had intense fights with high casualties on both sides, it was one of bloodiest battles of all the civil war. Despite the high casualties neither side was able to achieve a victory. -
Battle of Appomattox Court House
This battle wasn’t much of a battle at all, it was a final engagement to end the Civil War. It took place on April, 9 1865 in Appomattox County, Virginia. The union army led by General Ulysses Grant surrounded the confederate troops, and after a brief fight Confederate General Lee realized that they had lost and surrendered. The surrender terms allowed the confederate soldiers to return home with their possessions. This signaled the end of the Civil War.
