  • Six-Day War

    Six-Day War
    After demanding the UN to remove its troops from the Sinai Peninsula, Egyptian troops decided to take their place. The closing of Israel's route to the Red Sea led to fear of a large Arab attack so Israel decided to strike first. With the defeat of the Arab forces Israel gained control of large amounts of land.
  • Yom Kippur War

    Yom Kippur War
    Determined to obtain their territory back Egypt and Syria launched the Yom Kippur War, a surprise attack against Israel in 1973. With the support of the U.S. Israel was able to pushback the Egyptian and Syrian armies. After weeks of fighting, both sides agreed to cease-fire.
  • Camp David Accords

    Camp David Accords
    In 1977, Egyptian president Anwar Sadat made a declaration of peace to Israel. Determined to help achieve this peace, U.S. president Jimmy Carter invited Sadat and Israeli prime minister Menachem Begin to the presidential retreat in Maryland. In 1978, Sadat and Begin reached an agreement known as the Camp David Accords and put an end to years of ribality between Egypt and Israel.
  • Intifada

    Intifada
    In 1978 Palestinian resentment of Israeli occupation boiled over into a rebellion called the intifada. During the intifada, Palestinian youths battled Israeli troops in widespread street violence.
  • A Second Intifada

    A Second Intifada
    In 2000 a second intifada began. This time, Palestinian youths were joined by Palestinian security forces with guns. Suicide bombers were sent by Hamas into Israel to attack civilians.
