1987 BCE
The First Intifada
1987-1993 Palestinians in the Gaza Strip and the West Bank rose up against Israeli control. Approximately the same number of Israelis and Palestinians were killed during attacks. The attacks stopped for a while after the Oslo Accords. -
1948 War
Israel declared independence. Egypt, Jordan, Lebanon, Syria, & Iraq attacked Israel. The outcome of this war was that Israel gained land, Egypt gained the Gaza Strip and Jordan gained the West bank and East Jerusalem.Hundreds of thousands of Palestinians and Jews became refugees. -
Six Day War or The 1967 War
During this Six Day War Egypt blockaded Israel. Egypt, Jordan, Syria, & Iraq moved troops to Israel's borders & made threatening statements. Israel launched a preemptive strike. After that Israel captured the West Bank and East Jerusalem from Jordan, the Golan Heights from Syria, & the Gaza Strip & all of the Sinai Peninsula From Egypt. More Palestinians and Jew became refugees. Terrorism became more common. -
Settlement Construction Begins
Israel started building settlements on seized land in the Sinai, Gaza, & the West Bank. There was only limited space for the settlement construction size. As the years went on more refugees came & the settlements became bigger. Some say that settlements would hurt the future Palestinian State. In result on the constructions the Israeli Military was trained harder to protect the settlements from the Palestinians. -
Attrition Battles
1967-1970 These battles was when the Arab countries were at war with Israel. The two groups met in Sudan and the Arabs said they did not want peace. The outcome of these battles was the Israel gained land from Egypt, Jordan, & Syria.The PLO then moved to Lebanon. -
The October War or Yom Kippur War
Egypt and Syria attacked Israel on Yon Kippur which is one one the most holiest day for Jews. The Israelis pushed back the attack. The outcome was the Israel retained the territories captured in 1967, but did not keep any additional land. -
Egypt and Israel Sign a Peace Agreement
Egypt was the first Arab country to recognize Israel and as a result Israel returned the Egyptian captives and removed the remaining Jewish families from Egypt. -
The 1982 Lebanon War
PLO units attacked communities in North Israel and Israel attacked the PLO back in Lebanon. After the Israelis withdrew from Lebanon, Lebanon served as a buffer zone and prevented the wide spread terrorist incursions into Israel from the North. -
The Oslo Accords
The Oslo Accords were a set of arrangements that began in 1993 when Israel and the PLO signed the Declaration of Peace. The result of the Accords was the PLO and Israel recognizing each other and renouncing violence and publicly expressing acceptance of peace, but both were accused of not fulfilling those obligations. -
Israel and Jordan Sign a Peace Treaty
Jordan became the second Arab country to recognize Israel due to a sign treaty. Trade, business, tourism, cultural exchanges, and scientific cooperation was increased between the two nations. -
The Camp David Summit
This was the first attempt to negotiate an agreement between Israel and the Palestinians. Nothing was agreed with between the two nations and further conflict was ensued. -
The Second Intifada
2000-Ongoing This Intifada was caused by General Ariel Sharon going to the Jewish Temple Mount. Many Israelis saw the General visit as a pretext for violence. The outcome of this Second Intifada was the great suffering and bloodshed on both side, The Israelis and the Palestinians. -
Arab Peace Initiative is Propsed
The Arab countries offered Israel peace in return for the territory captured in the 1967 War and recognition of an independent Palestine. Israel welcomed the proposal but did not agree to all of the demand and for the first time the Arab League sent officials to Israel. -
Israel begins Constructing the West Bank Barrier
2002-Ongoing Israel built a security barrier that would serrate its citizens from terrorist groups. Since the creation of this barrier there has been a reduced number of suicide bombings. This barrier also caused some issues for the Palestinians who had to work on the other side of the barrier. -
The Roadmap for Peace is Proposed
Plans for peace were proposed by the U.S, Russia, European Union, and the Untied Nations. As a result negotiations between Israel and Palestinian Authority became possible again. -
Israel Disengages From Gaza
This was the separation of Israel from the Palestinian territories in the Gaza Strip. This disengagement was said to not be part of the negotiations with the Palestinians and as result caused the rockets fired by terrorists group to increase. The outcome of Israel disengaging from Gaza caused four of the Wast Bank settlements to be dismantled. -
Hamas is Elected
Many Palestinians elected a majority of Hamas members as part of the Palestinians Authority's legislature and as a result many western nations imposed sanctions and suspended aid to the Palestinian Authority. -
The 2006 Lebanon War
Hezbollah was out to destroy Israel. Once the fighting started it did not end until August 11, 2006. As a result of this war many civilian lives were lost. Also Lebanon's transportation infrastructure was damaged. -
The Battle of Gaza
There was a tension that caused Hamas militants to attack Fatah members throughout Gaza. In the process Hamas's government was dissolved. The outcome was Hamas being able to control Gaza and the Palestinian Authority controlling the West Bank -
The Gaza War
2008-2009 Israel Attacked Hamas to stop the rocket attacks on Israel and to disrupt the terrorist activity. Hundreds of militants were killed. There were many civilian casualties as well as Gaza buildings and economy being heavily damaged. -
Gaza Flotilla Incident
This incident came about when Hamas seized control from the Palestinian Authority and Israel and Egypt began a blockade of Gaza. As a result the deterioration of the relationship between Israel and Turkey had begun. -
The Arab Spring
2010-Ongoing The Arab Spring consists of the Arab countries protesting against the autocratic and oppressive government. The outcome of this Arab Spring will have a long impact on the Arab Nations. Starting with who will be the leader of the nations since all the leaders thought as unworthy and corrupt are being thrown out of office.
