Vacuum Tubes
Invented by John Ambrose Fleming a vacuum tube, an electron tube, valve or tube, is a device that controls electric current flow in a high vacuum between electrodes to which an electric potential difference has been applied. -
1st Electronic Digital Computer
John William Mauchly, and their associates at the Moore School of Electrical Engineering of the University of Pennsylvania invent the first electronic digital computer (called the ENIAC) during the years 1943-1946 -
1st Programmable Computer
Invented by Konrad Zuse, the first programmable general-purpose electronic digital computer, built during World War II by the United States. -
The Mouse
Invented by Douglas Engelbart and Rene Sommer. Is a hand-held pointing device that detects two-dimensional motion relative to a surface. This motion is typically translated into the motion of a pointer on a display, which allows a smooth control of the graphical user interface of a computer. -
Transistors
Invented by William Shockley ,Walter Houser Brattain, and John Bardeen. A transistor is a semiconductor device used to amplify or switch electronic signals and electrical power. It is composed of semiconductor material usually with at least three terminals for connection to an external circuit. -
Artificial Intelligence
The Logic Theorist was a program designed to mimic the problem solving skills of a human and was funded by Research and Development (RAND) Corporation. It’s considered by many to be the first artificial intelligence program and was presented at the Dartmouth Summer Research Project on Artificial Intelligence (DSRPAI) hosted by John McCarthy and Marvin Minsky in 1956. -
Integrated Circuits
Invented by Robert Noyce. An electronic circuit formed on a small piece of semiconducting material, performing the same function as a larger circuit made from discrete components. -
Microprocessors
Invented by Marcian Hoff, Masatoshi Shima, Federico Faggin, and Stanley Mazor. A microprocessor is an electronic component that is used by a computer to do its work. It is a central processing unit on a single integrated circuit chip containing millions of very small components including transistors, resistors, and diodes that work together. -
The World Wide Web
Invented by Tim Berners-Lee and Robert Caillou. An information system on the internet which allows documents to be connected to other documents by hypertext links, enabling the user to search for information by moving from one document to another. -
1st Automatic Computing Engines
Charles Babbage, computer pioneer, designed the first automatic computing engines. He invented computers but failed to build them. The first complete Babbage Engine was completed in London in 2002, 153 years after it was designed. -
The IPhone
Invented by Steve Jobs. The iPhone is the first smartphone designed and marketed by Apple Inc. After years of rumors and speculation, it was officially announced in January 2007, and was released in the United States in June. Development of the iPhone as a product began in 2005 and continued in complete secrecy until its public unveiling.
