    Cold War
    The U.S. and the Soviet Union were involved in the Cold War. The United States were Democratic and the Soviet Union were Communists. A Cold War is a state of tension between two countries with no fighting. This event started in 1945 and ended in 1989. The event was important to history because there was tension and Communism was spreading and the U.S. was trying to stop it. That is why it impacted our history. This involved society and what people thought about these two groups.

    Baby Boom was an event that took place from 1945-1954. Baby Boom was a event that increase population and the number of baby's. The population before Baby Boom was 9 million and after Baby Boom it grew to 29 million. The population increased by 20 million. This event took place in the United States. This event was important because the U.S. made up lost time during the Great Depression and World War II. Baby Boom was important in society because it increased the population by 20 million.
  • Truman Doctrine

    Truman Doctrine
    Harry Truman was the president when he had made this plan. He sent 400 million dollars to Greece and Turkey. Greece and Turkey were trying to stop communism and Harry Truman wanted to help. He sent the money in March, 1947. This event was important to history because it showed how much the U.S. did not like communism. This impacted politics because there would have been more of a communism government in Turkey and Greece.

    Marshall Plan
    George Marshall set up the Marshall plan. He sent over 12 billion dollars to help Western Europe. The U.S. wanted to help Western Europe rebuild from World War II. The event was in Western Europe in April, 1948. This event was important to history because the U.S. sent over a lot of money to help rebuild Europe. This had an economic impact because money was sent over for resources and goods.

    Joseph McCarthy
    Joseph McCarthy was a senator from the state of Wisconsin. In 1953 he announced that 57 state department employees were communists. Joseph could never prove his point that these people were all communists. In 1954, Joseph made a list of communists in the army that he once again could never prove. Joseph gets censured and loses his power.This was important because it spread fear and suspicion of communism. This was important to politics because communism could have spread.

    Vietnam is located in Southeast Asia by the South China Sea. There were 500,000 troops sent to fight in the Vietnam War. The Vietcong and the U.S. were involved in this war. There became two types of people in the U.S. during war. There were doves, people who did not support war and hawks, people who did support it. Many doves protested the war on college campuses. The U.S. surprised Vietnam which was called the Tet Offensive. There were 58,000 Americans killed and 1 million Vietnamese killed.

    Rosa Parks
    Rosa Parks was born in Alabama, in 1913. Rosa Parks refused to surrender her seat to a white passenger. She was then arrested. This took place on a bus that people then boycotted after Rosa Park's actions. This is very important because it tried to end Jim Crow Laws and segregation. Rosa Parks joined the NAACP after being arrested to try and end segregation. Rosa Parks impacted society because the bus boycotting introduced nonviolent protests as a method for social equality.

    Martin Luther King Assassaination
    MLK was a civil rights activist who wanted equal rights. MLK was assassinated on April 4, 1968 by a man named James Earl Ray. James use a "Remington Game Master" rifle to kill MLK. MLK was hit in the side of his jaw severing his spinal cord. MLK was assassinated in Memphis, Tennessee. The killer of MLK was found in London 2 months later. At the time, this was the FBI's most expensive and biggest investigations. This impacted society because many liked MLK and he was killed.
  • Robert F. Kennedy Assassination

    Robert F. Kennedy Assassination
    Robert F. Kennedy was John F. Kennedy's brother. RFK was shot with a .22 caliber pistol. Two shots hit RFK in the stomach/chest area and one bullet hit him in the head. RFK was assassinated by a man named Sirhan Sirhan. This event took place on June 4, 1968, in LA, California. RFK died at 42 years old on June 6. This was important because it led to a secret service protection for all future major presidential candidates. This event impacted politics because RFK was involved in politics.

    Persian Gulf War
    Saddam Hussein sent 100,000 troops to Kuwait. He sent troops to Kuwait for oil. The U.S. sent in troops to prevent Iraq from spreading it's influence in the middle east. On January 16, 1991, United Nations launched an air attack called Desert Storm. 28 Countries joined the U.S. Iraq's missiles became useless after 24 hours. The war lasted 6 weeks resulting in 382 American deaths and 100,000 Iraq deaths. It costed $700 million dollars to clean oil spills and billions of dollars to rebuild.

    Bill Clinton
    Bill Clinton was a Democrat who became president from 1992-2000. Before becoming president, Bill Clinton was the Governor of Arkansas. When Bill became president, he did many things. He sent 20,000 troops to Bosnia, he made a Health Care Reform plan, and he also was the second president to ever be put on trial. Bill stayed in office after he was put in trial. The big impact Bill had was that he lowered the United States deficit. This impacted economy because he lowered our debt.
  • Iraq/Afghanistan Wars

    Iraq/Afghanistan Wars
    George W. Bush sent in troops to try and stop the possibility of Iraq/Afghanistan deploying weapons of mass destruction. Bush also wanted to protect oil resources and make the world safe for terrorists. There was no evidence of weapons of mass destruction. U.S. forces were attacked by the Al Qaida and the Taliban. As of last year, there are about 6,882 casualties and the costs are up to 4-6 trillion dollars. This was a big impact on economy because of the cost of the war.
  • Hurricane Katrina

    Hurricane Katrina
    Hurricane Katrina is one of the deadliest hurricanes on record. This hurricane had category 5 winds which were over 157 MPH. When it hit the land it slowed down to a category 3. New Orleans was 80% destroyed after the Hurricane was done. There was 81 Billion dollars in damage. A levee broke which sent water rushing through and flooded houses. This affected over 40,000 square miles destroying 150,000 homes and 900 churches. Kuwait gave the most money out of any other state at 500 million dollars.
