Baby Boom
Women increased the number of children they were having. The birthrate (or number of children born) increased from 9 million to 29 million. Baby boom took place throughout the U.S & lasted from 1945 to 1954. Baby boom was important because it made up for lost time during the great depression and WWII. During the great depression it was to expensive and to difficult to have kids. Baby Boom impacted society because there was better healthcare for children and pregnant women during the 1940s-1950s. -
Jackie Robinson
Jackie was a 4 sport athlete and was lettered in all 4 sports, he went to UCLA. He played baseball, track, basketball, & football. He was drafted into the Army during WWII. When he came back he decided to play baseball. He lived in CA most of his life then went in the MLB in 1947. Robinson was important to history because he became the first African American player in MLB. He was elected to the hall of fame in 1962. Jackie impacted society because his number was retired by every single MLB team. -
Korean war
The Korean war was fought between North Korea (NK) and South Korea (SK) and the U.S. NK invaded SK. UN forces sent in under command of Douglas MacArthur, UN forces were outnumbered and poorly supplied. The war took place in Korea between 1950-1953. This event was important in history because it stopped Korea from becoming all communism. The Korean war impacted the society because NK wanted communism throughout Korea and SK was thankful for the U.S. that they stopped communism spreading in Korea. -
Berlin Wall
The Berlin wall was put up between west & east Berlin. East German soldiers built a wall of concrete and barbed wire across Berlin. Germany wanted to stop people from going to west Berlin.The wall was 69 1/2 miles long. Before the wall was put up 3 million people went to WB. Berlin wall was put up in in Berlin in August 1961. It was important to history because it was a symbol of the cold war. The Berlin wall impacted society because East Berliners who tried to escape were shot by border guards. -
Robert F. Kennedy
Robert F. Kennedy was a president and brother of John F. Kennedy. Sirhan Sirhan shot RFK with a 22 caliber pistol. 3 shots hit him(1 in head, 2 in chest). The assassination took place in Los Angeles, California at the Ambassador Hotel on June 4, 1968. This event was important because the reason he was killed was because sirhan Sirhan was mad at Kennedy support for Israels policies/military. RFK impacted society because anyone that runs for president now has to be guarded by the secret service. -
Man Lands on the Moon
Armstrong, Aldrin, & Collins piloted Apollo II. Armstrong was the first person to walk on the moon. The moon felt like powdered charcoal & the landing craft left a crater about 12 inches deep. Wanted to plant an American flag & gather moon supplies & return to Earth. Took place in space on July 20, 1969. It was important to history because the U.S. became the first to make it to the moon. Landing on the moon impacted society cuz the U.S got to the moon before the Soviets & we were in a Cold War. -
Kent State Masscre
Kids from Kent state were involved in the Massacre. They were protesting after Nixon's pledge to send troops to Cambodia. Took place in Ohio on May, 4, 1970. This event was important because police was bayoneting and clubbing student protesters, and National guardsmen met with chants and rocks. They fired 61 shots into the crowd. 4 students were killed and 9 were wounded. KSM impacted society because the national Guards was not blamed for the massacre, 25 students & professors were found guilty. -
Gerold Ford
Gerald ford was a president and Vice President, & was a Republican. He became president after president Nixon quit. Gerald Ford had 2 assassination attempts on him both failing. He was a Michigan congressman before becoming VP. He was president from 1974-1976. Gerald Ford was important to history because he started trade with the Soviet Union. Also, he was part of the Warren Commission and investigating on JFK's assassination. Gerald Ford impacted politics because he was pardoning Richard Nixon. -
Ronald Reagan
RR was the pres of the U.S. He was a republican. There was a failed assassination attempt on him & he made the quote, "honey I forgot to duck." Was the governor of CA, a movie star in 50 films, & was pres from 1980-1988. RR was important for many things like, the Iran contra affair, USSR summits, cut $ in education, helped reduce nuclear weapons, put first women justice on supreme court & nominated 5 justices. He impacted economy b/c he spent $100 bil on defense, Also Reaganomics that cut taxes. -
George W. Bush
George W. Bush was pres of the US. He was a Republican. He took 900 days off during his terms which is the most by any president. He was president form 2000-2008, & governor of Texas. He was important b/c during his presidency Sadden Hussein was executed, war on terror 9 (U.S, Iraq, & Afghanistan), tax relief, & created no child left behind (education). Bush impacted society b/c he was president during Sept. 11 & took leadership for his country, this gave America hope that someone was in charge. -
Iraq/Afghanistan
Iraq, US & Afghanistan were at war, George Bush & Tony Blair were involved. About 6,882 casualties as of 5/17/16, & cost $4-6 trillion. Event took place in 10/01(Afghanistan) & 3/03(Iraq). Was important b/c possibility of Iraq employing weapons of mass destruction, protect oil reserves, & make the world safe from terrorists. Impacted the society b/c it led to occupation of American troops for over a decade,the death of Saddam Hussein & Osama bin Laden, & helped the Iraqs elect their own gov't. -
September 11, 2001
Planned by Osama Bin Laden & Al Qaida.In NYC, 1st & 2nd plane crashed into twin towers. Took 20sec to fall @120mph & burned for 56min & 102min. 3rd plane crashed into the pentagon. 4th plane crashed into field in PA. Passengers died heroes.Took place In NYC & VA on 9/11 2001.Important b/c fireman, policemen etc gave their lives to try & save all the people, was the 1st time since PH that America was attacked.TV channels shared info.Impacted society b/c it affects all people & killed many people.
