    Jackie was born in Georgia and after one yea of life his father left his family.He moved to California and went to a high school there and got lettered in four sports for the University of California Los Angeles.He was drafted in to the army for WWII and became a 2nd lieutenant.Then he became the first African American to play in the MLB in 1947 for Brooklyn Dodgers.He and family got threats by people.He was rookie of the year in 1947 and MVP in 1959.Died from heart causes ind diabetes in 1972.

    Children born in the late 1940s were the first generation to have a television. They once called televisions "idiot box" or the "boob box." Educators thought that their students would skip there homework to watch TV. TV commercials impacted people. Also, it showed first hand historical events. Most popular tv show was Twenty-One
  • Korean War

    Korean War
    The Korean War took place in the country of Korea and it started in June of 1950 to 1953. They divided Korea after WWII at the 38th parallel. North Korea where communist and supported by the USSR and South Korea was democratic and supported by the U.S. North Korea invaded the south in June of 1950. The United Nations put Douglas MacArthur under command and they here outnumbered ans poorly supplied. The U.S. goals where to unite Korea and punish North Korea for its aggression. Cease fire 1953.

    3 million went west to Berlin an embarrassed to the Soviet Union. In August 1961 the east Berlin soldiers began building a wall on concrete and barbed wire all across Berlin which was 69.5 miles long. The east Berliners who tried to escape to the west got shot by the soldiers on the border.

    John F. Kennedy was assassinated in a open car parade on November 22, 1963 in Dallas, Texas. He did not die right away but died at 2 pm in Parkland Hospital. The man who shot JFK was named Lee Harvey Oswald. 3 television stations broadcast went on for 70 hours without commercials. The man that assassinated JFK was killed on live television by a man named Jack Ruby. The Warren Commission was set up to investigate the murder to see if Jack acted alone. That found that Oswald acted alone.

    Medicaid and Medicare
    Medicaid was set up by the Social Security Administration in 1965. It gave money to help low income people of all ages with medical bills. It was the largest source of funding for people with low income. If you had it in one state doesn't mean you have it in another. Medicare was started by Lyndon Johnson in 1966. The government helped pay the hospitals bill of citizens over the age of 65. It covered about half of the health charges. The impact was that adults paid more money than younger.

    Kent State Massacre
    The massacre took place on May 4th of 1970. It took place at an Ohio college because of Nixon's pledge to send troops to Columbia. The police started to bayoneting and clubbing the students. National guard was sent and they got rocks thrown at them and 28 guardsmen fired 61 and killed 4 students and 9 where wounded. 25 of the students and 1 teacher where found guilty and the national guard was not blamed for the massacre.

    Nixon was once a Vice President for Eisenhower the became president 1968-1974.The Water Gate happened in Washington D.C. when 5 men broke into the Democratic Headquarters.They caught by leaving a door opened. Nixon said that he was not involved.The FBI put secret tape recording in his office.There was a man named "deep throat" and right before he died in 2008 he told people it was him William Mark Felt.In 1974 Nixon was put on trial and on August 9, 1974 Nixon was the first president to resign.

    Ronald Reagan was president 1988 to 1992. He was part of the republic party and before he was president he was the California governor and a movie star 1937-1964. His biggest two events where that he spent $100 billion on deface and he cut taxes. He cut money in education and helped reduce nuclear weapons. Two fun facts are that he loved jelly beans and He was a life guard on the Rock River with a weird swimming suit.

    September 11 is a day people will remember.9/11 is a day that terrorist attacked the United States. This was the first time America was attacked since Pearl Harbor.The attackers where Osama Bin Laden and the al- Qulda terrorist which was a network of 19 hijackers. Two of the airplenes went into the twin towers, one flew into the Pentagon, and one crashed into a field after the people tried to over throw the hijackers on theairplane Bin Laden was killed May 1, 2011 by the Navy Seals in Pakistan.

    The financial was the most dangerous crisis since since the Great Depression of the 1930. Companies that relied on credit suffered because the banks weren't trusting anyone to pay them back. This did not only affect America it also affected other countries. The U.S. lost nearly to million jobs and the employment went up 7.2 and is now 4.4.

    George was president from 2000 to 2008 and part of the republican party. Before was president he was the Governor of Texas. His biggest event while he was president was 9/11. Bush stated no child left behind for education. Out of his 8 years as president he took 900 days off and that is the most by any president.
