Monday
-Icebreaker Activities to begin developing classroom community
-Class discussion regarding procedures including: entering the classroom, morning announcements, transitions, snack/lunch, recess, washroom/drink breaks, fire drill/lockdown/emergencies
-Whole class activity: "Characteristics of a Good Student" and "Characteristics of a Good Teacher" -
Tuesday
-Students work in small groups of 3-4 students to develop a list of their top 3-5 rules that they think should be implemented into the classroom
-As a class, students identify the top 5 rules from group work
-Identify what each rule looks like and does not look like
-Discussion of consequences -
Wednesday
-Read over class created rules together
-In small groups, students are given a rule or scenario on a cue card
-Students role play their scenario, acting out what this rule/scenario looks like and what it does not look like
-Students complete a writing activity describing their "Perfect Classroom"- focuses on what the perfect classroom environment would be like for each individual student -
Thursday
-Have students sign their individual contract which will be kept in their duotang, as well as a teacher copy
-Students also sign a pledge on chart paper which will hang in the classroom
-In pairs, students create posters illustrating classroom rules and procedures -
Friday
-Students share the posters that they created with their classmates
-Class discussion regarding the rules- students will share what they think went well, what the class can improve on and clarify any misunderstandings
-Kahoot Quiz about classroom rules and procedures
-Letter home to parents outlining class created rules/procedures and consequences
