    The Missouri Compromise
    The Missouri Compromise is when the Missouri territory became a state and it split from the south states and the north states. This was very influential in the civil war by making the united states very seperate and split in two and not be "united."
  • Compromise of 1850

    Compromise of 1850
    This allowed California to become a free state and made the Utah and New Mexico territories, It also created the fugitive slave act that was if anyone helped a slave escape from their master, they would be fined and most likely sentenced to jail time.
  • Uncle Tom's Cabin

    Uncle Tom's Cabin
    A novel wrote to show the evil and cruel ways of slavery and the fugitive slave act. This contributed to the civil war by making the south more confident about their claim and vis versa to the north.
  • Kansas Nebraska Act

    Kansas Nebraska Act
    This act allowed the people of the Kansas and Nebraska territories to decide is they wanted to have slaves or not. This contributed to the civil war by disobeying the Missouri compromise .
  • Brooks attacks Sumner

    Brooks attacks Sumner
    Brooks, a southern representve, beat north representative Sumner becasue his intense rules on anti slavery and he believed that they went too far. This lead up tot he civil war by getting politic physical violence involved, these people are supposed to lead the country and they disagree with eachother so much that
  • Dred Scott Decision

    Dred Scott Decision
    A supreme court case in which a slave, Dred Scott, tried to sue his master and he lost. This brought the thoght of slaves rights as Dred tried to sue his master for using him as a slave in a free state. This gave the north evidence to use that anti-slavery is better than pro-slavery as is was a very racist court desision.

    Raid on Harpers Ferry
    This was a group of confederates,including John Brown, that raided a union stronghold and completly destroyed everything. This was foreplay of the civil war, this showed the desire for dominice that the north and south wanted.
  • Election of 1860

    Election of 1860
    The democratic party split up from north and south, the biggest party in politics split up in between pro-slave and anti-slave. So one half of the US supported one canidate and the other have supported another canidate. This started many politic debates between the south and north and they could never agree on anything.
