This was a major turning point in the war and was a Union Victory that stopped Robert E. Lee's invasion of the North. -

Robert E. Lee surrenders near the Appomattox Court House in Virginia to Ulysses S. Grant and the Union. -
Lincoln's Assassination
On this day Abraham Lincoln was shot by John Wilkes Booth in Ford's Theatre and would later die. And because of this Andrew Johnson would become the president. -
13th Amendment
The 13th amendment was passed and banned slavery in the U.S. -
14th Amendment
The 14th amendment was passed and said all persons could not be denied equal protection of the law. -
15th Amendment
The 14th amendment gave the right to all African American males to vote in the U.S.
