Missouri Compromise
The government decided to make Maine a free state and Missouri not and pretty much created a line between them. This created tension because the North felt like the government was having too much power over this. -
Compromise of 1850
Territory areas had slavery of Mexican-Americans. -
Fugitive Slave Law
This law was passed by the United States Congress. Southern slave-holding interests and Northern Free Soilers was a part of the Compromise of 1850. -
Kansas-Nebraska Act
This act allowed people in Kansas and Nebraska to decided for themselves weather if or not to allow slavery in their area. -
Dred Scott Supreme Court decision
The U.S Supreme Court ruled that a slave should not be given his freedom and should not be considered a U.S citizen. Which this pushed the country into civil war. -
Raid on Harper’s Ferry
This was an effort by John Brown. A raid against federal armory in Harpers Ferry lead by John Brown with a small group. -
Election of 1860

The Presidential election of 1806 on November 6th had a good chance of either Stephen Douglas or Abraham Lincoln to be President. Stephen Douglas was in the Democratic side but Democrats felt betrayed when they found out that Stephen Douglas supported for popular sovereignty. They ended up not voting for him because of that which gave Abraham Lincoln a good chance of winning the election. Abraham Lincoln ended up winning. -
Battle of Antietam
Army of the Potomac was under the command of George McClellan. The battle was very bloody and ended in a draw. -
Emancipation Proclamation
Abraham Lincoln said that all the slaves in the States that were still rebellion against the union were to be forever freed. Thousands of slaves went to go sign up for war to fight against the people that wanted to enslave them. -
Battle of Gettysburg
The North and South had conflict, South wanted to be their own country but North did not. The South did not have much information and got into Battle of Gettysburg with the North. North has mostly won and ever since then, South eventually surrendered.
