South Seceding
When Lincoln became president many people in the south became very angry so they decided to try and secede. When the south seceded many other states decided they wanted to secede. -
Creating a Governmnent
Later on in history the south made another important decision. The people in charge decided to try and start their own governmnet. They didnt want to be apart of the country anymore. They were seceding mostly because they wanted to keep slavery. They were also angry that Lincoln was put into office. -
Lincoln gets in office
Lincolns Inauguration was held on March 4th 1861. During the session he noted that he didnt plan on ending slavery. He was just going to end it in states that it already existed in. -
Fort Sumtner
Fort Sunter gets attacked by South Carolina. The army got attacked because they wanted to start a war to try and win over South Carolina. Sout Carolina won by default. -
Slave States That Stayed in the Union
Some slave states still in the Union didn't join the Confederacy. They wanted to be on theri own. States that styayed were Delaware, Kentucky, Maryland, and Missouri. Even though all four states accepted slavery they still held back. -
The War in Antietam
The war in Antietam took place on September 17, 1862. There were two generals in charge of this battle. General Lee and General McClellan were trapped by the Confederat Army near Maryland. This was the deadliest war to take place. Over 2,000 Union soldiers were killede and 9,500 wounded. 2,700 Confederates were killed and 9,000 wounded. The war was so deadly that no one could declare the winner. -
Emancipation Proclamation
The primary Emancipation was declared by Lincoln on September 22, 1862. It was set to free all slaves where the states were rebelling against the United States of America. It became effective on Jauary 1, 1863. -
Battle of Chattanooga
November 23- 25 the Union forced the Confederates away from their sity in Chattanooga. -
Abraham Re- Elected
Lincoln was a part of the Republican party. He was re- elected president with Amdrew Johnson as the vice president. This action caused for an outrage in the south because of the hatred toward Lincoln. -
Lincoln's Assassination
On April 14 President Lincoln was sitting in Ford's Theater in Washington, DC. He was shot by John wilkes Booth. John was an actor from Maryland. He shot Lincoln because he was obsesses with the Confederates, and wanted them to win the war. Booth later escaped to Virginia for hideout. Eleven days later he was shot by a Union soldier. At the time of his death, he was in a barn.
