A communication system is formed by sending messages on horseback. -
Lincoln on the Ballot
Abraham Lincoln is nominated for the Republican Party to run for President of the United States. -
Abraham Lincoln is Elected President.
On November 6th, 1960, Abraham Lincoln is elected the sixteenth president of the United States. Many Southern states were very agitated over this because they felt Lincoln was prejudice when it came to slavery in the South. -
South Carolina Secedes
South Carolina seceded relatively quickly after the election of President Lincoln and formed the Confederacy. -
Confederacy is formed
The Confederacy has now been formed and Jefferson Davis has been elected the first presdient. He is a former U.S Army officer and a West Point graduate. -
Jefferson Davis elected as provisional president of the Confederacy
Jefferson Davis is elected as president of the Conferacy after they seceded from the Union. Davis ran without oppostion so he was guarenteed the position. -
The Beginning of the War
Fort Sumter is fired upon in Charleston Harbor by the Confederacy. No men were killed on either side because the South just wanted to make the North retreat from their territory. -
Confederates fire on Fort Sumter in Charleston Harbor
Fort Sumter is the starting battle of the Civl War. Davis ordered for no men to be killed, just to shoot it up so that the Union would leave their territory. -
Confederate Capitol
Confederate leaders vote to move capitol to Richmond, Virginia. The distance from Richmond to Washington D.C is 108 miles, which is close for two countries entering war. -
General McClellan
Lincoln appoints McClellan as the General of the Union's army. -
William Lincoln dies
Lincoln's son, William, dies and Lincoln is devasted. -
McClellan Relieved
Lincoln relieves McClellan of duty because of the several times he failed to finish the Confederacy off. Ulysses S. Grant is appointed General. -
Shiloh
Confederates surprise attack Grant's army along the Tennesse River. The Union lose 13,000 men and the Confederates lose 10,000. -
Lee takes command of Confederate army in Richmond
Robert E. Lee took charge of the Confederate army in Richmond, VA. He was a military genious and when to West Point. -
Battle of Antietam
General McClellan of the North defeated the South at Antietam. It was the bloodiest single day battle of the war. -
Lincoln issues preliminary Emancipation Proclamation
Following Antietam, Lincoln had the oppurtunitiy to issue his idea of freeing the slaves. This is his way of saying they were going to win the war and get what they want with no compromise. -
Fredericksburg
This battle was devasting for the North. It cost them 13,000 casualties and left their spirits plumbiting. -
Conscription Act
Lincoln signed the Act, calling for the nation's first drafting of civilians to fight in the war in history. -
Gettysburg
The Battle of Gettysburg was the bloodiest battle of the Civil War and one of the most famous battles in American history. This battle led directly to the conclusion of the Civil War. -
Lee offers to resign
Lee offers his resignation after being defeated in Gettysburg and Vicksburg, but Davis turns him down because that would show a major sign of defeat. -
Gettysburg Address
Lincoln's famous Gettysburg Address was delivered on this day. -
Grant in Control
Lincoln gives Ulysses S. Grant full control of the Union's military and Sherman takes over Grant's spot as Commander of the West. -
McClellan on the ballot
McClellan is chosen to run for president against Lincoln for the Democratic Party. -
Lincoln Reelected
Lincoln wins his second term as President of the United States by beating out George McClellan. -
Atlanta
Sherman and his men go through Atlanta and destroy all wearhouses and railroads. They begin their March towards the Sea with 62,000 men. -
Confederacy Resigns
Lee surrenders at the Appomattox Court House to the Union. -
Lincoln is shot
Lincoln is shot at Ford's Theater while watching a play by John Wilkes Booth. -
Lincoln dies
Lincoln officially dies in the hospital at 7:22 in the morning. About a week before the tragedy, he had a dream that he had died and he attended his funeral. He was also in very poor condition and probably would not have lived that much longer. -
Davis Captured
Confederate President Jefferson is captured in Georgia and is held captive. -
13th Amendment
Slavery is abolished in the United States of America.
