Missouri Compromise
Created an imbalance between the number of slave states, until the admission of Maine as an anti-slavery state. After becoming a pro slavery state. It allowed for an imaginary line to be drawn dividing the former Louisiana Territory into pro and anti-slavery. -
Compromise of 1850
The compromise of 1850 ended the war problems. This made California a free state from slavery. Creating Utah and New Mexico territories to be led by popular sovereignty. It ended the slave trade and made it easier to recover fugitives. -
Fugitive Slave Law
Fugitive Slave Law was where they had to return the slaves to their territory or place. This added harder punishments for the slaves. This is one of the most conversional laws of the early 19th century. -
Kansas-Nebraska Act
The Kansas-Nebraska Act allowed each territory to decide what to do with the idea of slavery based on popular sovereignty. They violated something that they had agreed on which made the conflict between the new anti-slavery settlers and the pro-slavery this became a problem known as the Bleeding Kansas and paved a way to the American Civil War. -
Dred Scott Supreme Court decision
This gave slave owners the right to the their slaves to western territories, The Americans hoped that the supreme court could settle the issue. The residents in the newly created territories could decide by vote to allow slaves. -
Raid on Harper’s Ferry
The raid was supposed to be established for freed slaves in the mountains of Maryland and Virginia. He was captured accused of treason and was later hung. This increased tensions between the Northern and Southern states before the American Civil War. -

Abraham Lincoln
President Lincoln was known for wanting to reserve the Union as a whole. Ending slavery was a way to reserve the Union. He also made the Emancipation Proclamation and published it. He helped end the Civil War and slavery. -
Election of 1860
Lincoln and his party did not want slavery to be around anymore and the people going against him did because their plantation revolved around the free labor that the slaves provided. They ended up arguing and debating over slavery which caused the Civil War. This ended up with Lincoln being killed for being a bad guy. After his death they realized he was not a terrible person and now is one of the most loved presidents. -
Battle of Antietam
This battle was fought on the northern soil. This gave Lincoln enough stuff to publish his Emancipation Proclamation. Even though the fight only lasted a day it was one of the bloodiest days resulting in more than 22,000 casualties. -
Emancipation Proclamation
They did not think that slavery would be able to be dropped with the conflict of fighting. They made the Emancipation Proclamation that was supposed to free all the slaves, this did not free any slaves. This did not do anything but it was a big step towards the right direction towards human freedom. -

Battle of Gettysburg
This is the most important battle of the American Civil War. They got a victory over the Union forces so they marched to Northern Virginia. The assault known of Picket's Charge got through the Union lines but eventually failed and Lee had to withdraw his forces.
