    Northwest Ordinance
    In the Northwest Ordinance, it made it so all the land was free. Which meant no slaves could go on that and be forced to work. It was also the process they used to admit a new state to the U.S. It gave them a government. The effect was that slavery was outlawed in north. People also began to get education.
  • Slave Trade Compromise

    Slave Trade Compromise
    The Slave Trade Compromise made it so people could vote for slave trade to end in 20 years. Which would not include slavery ending completely just the trade. The north was not happy about this. The south wasn’t happy because there was a possibility that it could be voted away. This also made it so slavery couldn’t be ended by the national government. The effect of this would be the ⅗ compromise.
  • Eli Whittney Cotton Gin

    Eli Whittney Cotton Gin
    While the U.S began creating new inventions. Eli Whittney with the intention of just making cotton picking easier, single handedly made slaverly explode more. This machine made it so picking cotton would be much easier. The effect of this invention made it so slave owners wanted more slaves and they planted more cotton. They move west once the soil goes bad.
  • Fugitive Slave Act

    Fugitive Slave Act
    The Fugitive slave act created conflict between the south and the north. This was basically taking funds from the federal government to find a runaway slave. The effect of this is many people who weren’t in the south and was free, got arrested and took back into slavery. Lawyers were paid $5 to say that it wasn’t the slave. But they were paid $10 to say that it was the slave. They obviously chose the second option making it completely unfair.
  • Uncle Tom's Cabin

    Uncle Tom's Cabin is a book that a lady named Harriet Beecher Stowe wrote. She was from Brunswick, Maine and this was the most popular book since Thomas Paine. It was created to show how gory slavery truly was. The effect of this is that it basically started the civil war.
  • Bleeding Kansas

    Bleeding Kansas
    Bleeding Kansas was between 1854 and 1860. This was when many people were moving to Kansas to vote and then they would move back to wherever. This is during the time when they were trying to figure out if Kansas was going to be a free state or a slave state. It went on for roughly 6 years. The effect of this and why it is called Bleeding Kansas is because 1,000 people died and John Brown killed slave owners, he took them out of there houses and hacked them up into pieces.
  • Southern Secession

    Southern Secession
    The cause of this was when Abraham Lincoln got elected president. The south hated this because he was a republican and is against slavery. The effects of this would be soon after South Carolina announces that they no longer will be a part of the U.S. The confederate states are also made because of Abraham being elected.
