    Created territories of Kansas and Nebraska, opening new land for settlers. The Kansas-Nebraska Act was open to thousands of new farms.
  • Election of 1860

    Election of 1860
    This election was served to immediate impetus for the outbreak of the Civil War. The states had been divided since 1850. States owning slaves and others without slaves.
  • Battle at Fort Sumter (Begining of Civil War)

    Battle at Fort Sumter (Begining of Civil War)
    From April 12-14 1861 General P.G.T. Beauregard opened fire on the Union at For Sumter. On the 13th of April 1861, Major Robert Anderson surrendered the fort and was executed the next day.

    Both warships were on different courses passing each other and firing. The Monitor could only fire once in 7 or 8 minutes. The Virginia headed for its navy yard instead of firing on the Minnesota. The battle was over.

    President Abraham Lincoln issued the proclamation on the third year of the Civil War.

    July 1-3 1863 the Battle of Gettysburg took place in Gettysburge, Pennsylvania.
  • Surrender at Appomattox

    Robert E. Lee and his men were surrounded and exhaused. He thought about surrendering to General Grant. They agreed to meet at the house of Wilmer McLean. The meeting lasted two and a half hours.
  • The Thirteenth Amendment

    The Thirteenth Amendment
    On April 8 the 13th Amendement was passed by Senate. January 31st by the House. It was ratified by many states on December 6th and on December 18th the Amendment was adopted.
