Battle of Shiloh
On April 6, 1862 a group of of Confederate soldiers launched a surprise attack on the Union Soldiers near a church called Shiloh. Many died while lying in their sheets or making coffee. Grant reorganized the Union troops and launched a counterattack the following day. This taught both sides an important lesson in strategy and also showed how bloody the war could become. -
