This battle was fought in Virginia and ended in a Confederate victory. The leaders in this battle were Burnside(North) and Lee(South). The most important outcome of this battle was it stopped the final Union advance of that year. -
Emancipation Proclamation
The Emancipation Proclamtion was a document that declared all of the slaves free. It was considered to be too little too late because it wasn't follwed in the South. The biggest outcome from it was the slaves in the North were freed, and the southern slaves ran away to the North. -
Battle of Chancellorsville
This battle lasted for 3 days and ended on the fourth with a Confederate victory. The leaders were Hooker(North) and Lee(South). This battle was fought in Virginia, and the mosst important outcome was that it was considered a turning point in the war for the South. -
Seige of Vicksburg
This battlewas fought in Mississippi, and lasted about two and a half months and ended on the 4th of July with a Union victory. The leaders were Grant(North) and Pemberton(South). the biggest outcome of this battle was the Union gained the Mississippi river. -
Battle of Gettysburg
This battle was fought in Virginia and lasted 3 days until the 3rd when it endede in a Union victory. The leaders were Meade(North) and Lee(South). This battle is considered another turning point because the South never invaded the North again. -
Seige of Atlanta
This battlewas fought in Georgia and lasted approximately 2 weeks and ended on September second with a Union victory. The leaders in this battle were Sherman(North) and Houd(South). The most important outcome of this battle was that the Union captured the "Heart of the South" and launched the "March to the Sea." -
Surrender at Appomattox Courthouse
Lee surrendered to Ulysses Grant and the Union army. This surrender ended the war. -
Assassination of Abraham Lincoln
Abraham Lincoln was shot and killed by John Wilkes Boothe. He was attending a play at the time that this happened. -
Ratification of the Thirteenth Amendment
The Thirteenth Amendment declared that all slaves were freed and that slavery was outlawed in all of the United States.
