Republican Abraham Lincoln was elected as President. Not all of the people in the United States of America supported having President Lincoln elected. -
Seceding States, A Country Falling Apart
On this date South Carolina became the first state to leave the Union. Which may incourage other states to leave the Union. South Carolina was scared that President Lincoln would try to put a stop to slavery, so South Carolina left to make their own country which will soon lead to bad things. -
The Country Falling Apart More?
In Febuary, 1861 six more states left the Union for the same reason South Carolina left. The states that left included: Mississippi, Florida, Alabama, Georgia, Lousiana, and Texas. -

John Hunt Morgan, a Confederate general, disobeyed orders and took his cavalrymen across the Ohio River into Southern Indiana, this was called the Morgan Raid. -

The Twenty-eigth United States Colored Troop was formed by Union African Americans. -
Ending of a Long-fought war
Civil War ended when Confederate general Robert E. Lee decided it was time to stop fighting and surrendered and Ulysses S. Grant accepted Lee's surrender at the Appomattoy Court House in Virginia.
