    He contracted Polio and became paralyzed. Ed Roberts began advocating when he was denied graduation from high school, which led him to became the first disabled student at Berkely. This broke the ice for other students with disabilities.

    Ed Roberts enrols at UC Berkeley
    He became the first disabled student to enrol, and fight for support. He would use his momentum of getting support from the school to advocate for more disabled rights, like founding the Center for Independent Living and World Institute of Disability.

    Active disabled community members found community and created American Coalition for Citizens with Disabilites, sought to carry out section 504 of Rehabilitation Act and provide disabled training centers in every city in the US.

    created and extended civil rights to people with disabilities, provided opportunities for children and adults with disabilities in education, employment and various other settings, allows for reasonable accommodations such as special study area and assistance as necessary for each student

    Passage of Public Law 94.142
    This law replaced the "Education for All Handicapped Children Act", and focused more on the person, not the condition the person has. The effect was that it opened schools to all children with disabilities.

    Cause: people with disabilities started advocating to end the exclusion and segregation they often faced. Effects: Companies were not allowed to discriminate when hiring, government buildings had to be handicap accessible, all private entities i.e. stores and restaurants are not allowed to discriminate or make those with disabilities feel uncomfortable.

    Accomplishments
    Disabled people are now allowed to enter public places and not have to worry about access to goods and services, as well as discrimination. One accomplishment is educating the public on disabilities, and another is opening up more opportunities for those with disabilities.
