Plessey v. Ferguson
A 30 year old man names Homer Plessey was jailed for sitting in the "white" section of the train. He later fought for his rights in court but was still guilty. It is significant to the Civil War because it was the start for the African Americans to fight for their rights and hhave equal rights for being an American citizen. It gave the equal not seperate opportunity to all people in America. -
Little Rock School Desegregation
This was the first school to desegregate. On the first day of school, there was the first nine African American students to attend. They were called the Little Rock Nine and many parents were furious and wanted them to be killed. The significance of this iis when the newsreporters were live broadcasting the scenes of Little Rock and made the people at home ashamed of whay has become of segregation. -
Brown v. Board of Education
Parents were protesting for making it law to segregate schools and the schools weren't equal. They found it unfair and started to prtoest because from Plessey v. Fergunson, they said they were going to have equal rights. The significance from this is that the parents fought for a better future for their children. It brought attencion from the federal government do they can do something about it. -
Murder of Emmett Till
At the age of fourteen, he went from Chicago to Mississippi to visit relatives. He was caught saying "bye" to a white woman and was later beaten and murdered by two white men. The men were not proven guilty and the mom was furious. At the funeral of Emmett Till, his mom decided to have an open casket to show the brutality of the Southern part of the US. -
Montgomery Bus Boycott
The day Rosa Parks didn't want to give up her seat to a white man, she was arrested and it was effective because she was the secretary and she had more power to fight against what is wrong.People started to boycott the buses and by doing that made the buses not get as much money because the blacks were the number one commuters. It's significant because the buses lost a lot of money and the blacks weren't going to ride the buses until they were integrated. -

March on Birmingham
The march on Birmingham was a campaign during the civil rights movement in which African Americans marched for their rights. There was a total of 4,800 arrests during the three day campaign.
It's significant because this was also broadcasted live and made an impact on how the AFrican Americans are being treated. -
March on Washington
This was the largest political rally in the US. This was when Martin Luther King gave his "I have a Dream" speech to motivate the people and to end this war agaisnt segregation and discrimination. Many people gathered around including white people. This gave hope to the people for a better future.
The significance of the March on Washington was that there are many people against segregation and want a better future for their children. Fighting for something you truly believe in. -
Civil Rights Act of 1964
This was a fight to outlaw all discrimintaion and segregation in the US. People had a voice and shaped the future of America. -
Voting Rights Acts of 1965
African Americans were encouraged to register to vote but the KKK was threatening them to do so. Then the federal government was involved and made it legal for a black person to vote.
A change in federal government gives a voice to all the US citizens. -
Martin Luther King Assasination
Martin Lutehr King was one of the biggest civil rights activist. He made sense to the civil rights followers and was an important leader to stop discrimination and segregation. He was murdered by a person for segregtation because he thought MLK can make a difference.
The significance is that a lot of people did believe that MLK and other activist would get what they want and have a different government to have equal rights.
