Gave congress the power to enforce in the second section.
Related to the emancipation proclemation issued by President Lincoln. -
14th Amendment
All natural born citizen of the United States are granted equal protection under the law. -
15th Amendment
Every citizen(man) of the United States can vote and not be denied due to race, color, or previous condition of servitude. -
Jim Crow Laws
Mandatory seperation of races in southern states. -
Poll Taxes
A Tax everyone had to pay in order to vote out lawed by the 24th amendment -
Sweatt Versus Painter
The court case that succesfully changed and challenged the seperate but equal doctrine allowing for racial segregation. -
19th Amendment
Gave women the right to vote and prohibited U.S. Citizens from being given the right to vote based on sex -
Koremastu Versus United States
A court case deciding that an order leading to Japanese enternment camps was constituional. -
Brown Versus Board of Education
The court case that the court decided that segregated schools were unconstitutional. -
Montgomery Bus Boycott
African Americans refused to ride buses in Montgomery, Alabama due to racial tensions. -
Literacy Test
A reading and writing test that you had to pass in order to vote. Supposed to keep african americans from voiting. -
Affirmitive Action
Requires U.S. government employers to hire without regard to race, religion, or national orgin. -
24th Amendment
Cannot be denied voting privlidges because of poll tax.
Congress has the right to enforce this. -
Civil Rights Act of 1964
Struggles by the minority and women to gain constituational rights garunteed to all citizens. -
Voting Rights Act of 1965
Prohibits racial discrimination in voting -
Robert Kennedy Speech in Indianapolis Upon Death Of MLK
Kennedy was the first to publicly inform people of King's assasination. He understood that the audience would be angery and empathized with them by refering to his brothers assassination. -
Reed Versus Reed
The adminstrators of the states cannot be named in a way that descriminates against sexes. -
Regents of the Unviersity Of California Versus Bakke
Allows race to be a deciding factor for college part of the affimitive action implimented by the United States of America. -
Equal Rights Amendment
Gave women all constitutional rights. -
Bowers Versus Hadwick
Court decision decided that there was no constitutionally protected right to engage in homosexual sex. Overturned in 2003. -
Americans With Disability Act
Prohibited discrimination in all public areas against U.S. citizens with disabilities. Provided reasonable accomidations within the work place and imposes accessbility requirements on public property. -
Plessy Versus Fergeson
Decision to uphold the constitutionality of state laws requiring racial seperation in public areas under seperate but equal doctrine. -
Lawrence Versus Texas
A court case making same sex sexual activity legal in every U.S. country. -
Fisher Versus Texas
A female student was denied admission to the University of Texas. She filed suit saying that she was denied due to race. It was decided that the decision based on race was to create diversity on campus and was legal. -
Bogan Versus Baskin
A court case leading to the striking down of the ban on gay marriage in Indiana.
