Martin Luther King jailed
During a march in Birmingham, Alabama 1,000 African Americans marched for freedom, but were caught by police and arrested. MLK along with 959 people were arrested. -
J.F.K assassination
The President was on one of his Presidential visit for lunch with the Governor to Dealey Plaza, Dallas, Texas. He was shot by Lee Harvey Oswald who was on one of the floors from a building near the Plaza located right where the President's vehicle had to slow down to turn. There was at least a total of four shots fired, one which hit JFK's neck, the other his head while the first one missed and the other hit the Governor John Connalloy. -
From Selma to Montgomery
Jimmy Lee Jackson was killed in Selma, Alabama while in the Southern Christian Leadership Conference. In honor of his death and in a march for desegregation in Alabama, a group of African Americans including MLK who lead the way walked all the way from Selma to Montgomery where the Governor had his police ready and waiting to beath them. 10 weeks later, the Voting Rights Act of 1965 was passed to allow people to vote without literacy tests. -
Stokely Carmichael protest
Stokely Carmichael was arrested for setting up a tent on an all black High School campus ground. At night, he escaped from jail and made a speech for the students protesting. His speech was about police brutality and showed the protesters his wounds. The slogan Black Power came from his speech. -
MLK's assassination
Martin Luther King Jr. was going to stay at his room 306 (also nicknamed the "King-Abernathy Suite") at the Lorraine Motel in Memphis. He was standing on the balcony with his friend when he was shot by James Earl Ray. The bullet entered through his right cheek, breaking his jaw, neck and several vertebrae as it travelled down his spinal cord, severing the jugular vein and major arteries in the process before lodging in his shoulder.
