    It was to preserved the balance between slave and free states in the senate. the differences between the north and the south grow into sectionalism. But the south wanted a better fugitive slave law. Sense the north did not want that the south seceded from the union. And made Main was a free state and Missouri as a slave state.

    Dred Scott's decision was to sued for his freedom because he lived were slavery was outlawed and his owner died. The court's decision was he was to stall a slave. If the court said he was free that would be taking property away from someone. The court thought that was wrong.

On December 20, 1860, South Carolina left the union because they didn't believe president Lincoln. When Lincoln began president the south debated to secession from the union and they did. But the southerners had to find reasons to secession with the theory of the state rights.
